Think that one through. I believe DV is a horrific crime. My heart hurts for any victim of it and I believe that anyone guilty of DV should be punished. That said, each case has to be faced without prejudice for our legal system to work. Every single victim of DV should be heard and they deserve justice, but not everyone who claims DV is telling the truth. That's a sad fact and, as I said, we can't presume anything--we have to weigh the facts of every single case, every single time.

I honestly don't understand how anyone could understand the legal issues at play, listen to this entire trial, come to the conclusion that Johnny Depp is a blameless victim, and not be a misogynist.

Not saying he's a blameless victim but AH is certainly not a blameless victim like she has been portraying herself either

She's not suing him and she didn't decide to air all their dirty laundry across international courtrooms. She wrote a vague op ed that would never have made that much news because it discussed events that had already been widely reported on. Acting like she has launched some large campaign against him is not an accurate reflection of reality. He has in fact dragged her through the mud as loudly and dramatically as possible though, and himself along with her.

She wrote an oped that insinuated he was sexually violent and engaged in marital rape. If someone vaguely accused me of that publicly with no evidence to back it up AND that person had plenty of skeletons in their closet, you bet I’d drag them through the mud and then some.

Well that's fine, but then don't blame them when your life is ruined by the reporting on the trial you instigated rather than the action that made you mad.

His life was not ruined by the trial. It was ruined by her allegations.

I disagree. Prior the trial I was neutral about Depp - as many of us were. I was concerned but not swayed by Heard’s Op-Ed. Post trial I’m revolted by Depp. His misogyny and clear disregard for women (talks about women as fish, feels entitled to have sex with them, calls women horrible derogatory names) and clearly fantasized about murdering Heard - or having someone murder her - and leaving her on a trunk. Will never see him the same way thanks to this trial.

NP. That’s interesting! I didn’t read the op ed or anything but I definitely thought of JD as an abuser and addict/hot mess before the trial and while the trial hasn’t improved my opinion of him much, it’s definitely made me view AH as just as much of a hot mess and also culpable in the disaster that was their relationship.

I guess I don’t think Heard did anything to deserve the abuse she received - and no abused person “deserves” that type of treatment no matter how imperfect they are. YMMV.

I hope that your "no abused person" also includes JD. He was also abused and imperfect (alcohol and drug) and did not deserved the hate he received after her allegations were made public

Based on the evidence, it seems like the oped did little, if anything, to affect Depp’s reputation.

DP. The UK court found that to be substantially true.

That’s a significant background piece that a lot of people here conveniently ignore. Much of these facts were already litigated in the UK, which tends to be very friendly to plaintiffs suing publications for defamation. Even there, Depp lost because the evidence substantiated that 12 of the 15 instances of IPV by Depp alleged by The Sun were found to be substantially true.

That should say 12 of 14, not 15.

Never mind, finding it now from reputable sources

I feel like the relatively short deliberation time is good news for AH. The facts do not help him much, so unless a couple people were really digging in their heels because they sided with him emotionally, it seems clear he should definitely lose. I think it is doubtful she will win her countersuit, but considering she only filed that as a response to the suit, a loss for him in any respect is a win for her.
