Stay tuned.....

I wouldn't say that uMich isn't worried. They have a lot of plans in the air, just as Notre Dame did. It remains to be seen what happens.

A majority of UM students will begin moving in Aug. 24, according to UM’s housing website. About 70% of credit hours for undergraduates will be taken remotely, the university said, and everyone on campus will be required to wear masks, both indoors and outdoors.

Before returning to Ann Arbor, UM is asking its students to practice 14 days of “enhanced social distancing,” which many students feel will only work if everyone follows the policy.

University of Michigan students unsure if ‘enhanced social distancing’ requirement will be effective

The university has partnered with the Ann Arbor Police Department to help keep students safe from COVID-19 by enforcing a ban on large gatherings with small canvassing teams. UM has also opened a hotline to reduce the need for police being called as a first response to suspect violations, AAPD said.

Many have questions and concerns about UM’s plan, however. Multiple Ann Arbor City Council members raised concerns when the plan was presented at an Aug. 17 meeting, saying there was a lack of enforcement and prevention of exposure to the virus.

UM professors have also said they have “no confidence” in the university’s plan to reopen and claim that it shows a “complete disregard for people’s well being.”

Stay tuned to what? You're just fear-mongering. UMich social media is spamming move-in excitement all week. They're not canceling move-in. It's happening and there's nothing to worry about. This virus is sooooo dangerous you have to force college kids to take a test to know they have it. All the risk is elderly, almost entirely in senior care facilities.

Stay tuned basically means "wait two weeks". The fact that colleges are moving ahead with letting kids move onto campus in no way means that there's nothing to worry about. It means the colleges have committed to opening up and are going to try to do it. But clearly there are people on campus (the professors, to start) who do not think it is a good idea.

The virus is often mild in young adults, or they can be asymptomatic, but yet spread the illness especially in close quarters, which is why students need to be tested before they move in, and frequently thereafter, as college campuses are superspreader locations.

I do expect a major outbreak at UMichigan in 2 weeks. Stay tuned.

+1. Michigan State already moved to all online.

2234 tests done and 374 positives is very bad.

Well, I guess we'll see. It's not like I'm making this up -- there have been cases all over the place at schools that have reopened, more in the south where there is more spread, of course. As a state Michigan doesn't have a lot of spread, but large schools bring in students from all over, and it only takes one superspreader event to have cases everywhere in a congregate living situation.

They have only tested symptomatic people up until now.

According to the Reddit thread and local news, even exposed students are having a hard time getting tests. There seems to be a shortage of tests.

Notre Dame has held masses with sacraments which no doubt spread the virus. How can you have people drinking wine together with COVID going around?!

For those that don't believe me, here is ND's own website saying they will/have held masses of sacramental initiation!

Um, you’ve linked to a post from early April. I don’t think that’s really relevant to today.

Apparently students are pretty ticked about the lack of information coming from the school. Compare Notre Dames’ covid board with North Carolina’s and you see why.

Shouldn't ND be administering MORE tests? It looks like a pretty precipitous drop off in the numbers of tests, even though the COVID cases keep rising. Why are ND's test numbers decreasing? BTW, the fact that the COVID positive cases keep rising, despite the fewer numbers of tests does not bode well.

Only the priests drink the wine in most Catholic services. Parishioners get the wafer.
