Ha! As soon as I saw your post, I knew what it must mean.

Indeed, congratulations to them!

CLOY was a beautiful drama, but it's clear now why it had that X factor that made it so special.

Yes. Hard to be optimistic about a marriage between two actors (apparently he had a rep as a bit of a player) but would be lovely if it worked out. She’s 40, so I imagine they’ll try for kids asap.

I'm actually fairly optimistic for them. Back when CLOY first came out, I read a lot of interviews and articles about him, going back many years. He's really mature and thoughtful, as is she. There is a risk to their careers if this implodes, so they would have to be pretty confident. Both actors did CLOY because they were interested in working with the other after their brief work together in a previous movie, and they've dated for two years now, so they've had time to make sure their relationship is solid.

Who knows? I love to see them start a family and be happy.

I hope it works out, too. My guess is her career will be moribund while she focuses on the marriage and possibly kids. Shame if that happens, since she's stronger actor imo. I'd love to be wrong about that.

This is what all my Korean friends tell me. They are not impressed with my newfound post-CLOY obsession with Hyun Bin.

My impression from interviews is that SYJ is maybe the alpha, and HB perhaps is the one most smitten. I can't point to anything specific. It's just a feeling. I hope so! That would bode best for their future.

I just finished CLOY and couldn’t wait to finally come and read all the DCUM posts! Appreciate the recommendations and will definitely check out some of them.

Could I ask a very different recommendation question? I couldn’t get my family to watch CLOY with me because of the romance. They have NO interest in anything that’s primarily pitched as a romance. Any recommendations for non-romance k-dramas with enough action and/or humor to keep everyone watching?

Right now, as a family, we’re enjoying All of Us Are Dead (zombies in a high school). Husband and I loved Kingdom (historical zombies). We didn’t set out to only watch zombie shows, but that seems to be the way it’s shaped up, ha.

Did you watch Squid Game, or maybe the movies Parasite or Minari? If you like zombies you would like Train To Busan. Itaewon Class is less romantic. Hospital Playlist is like ER (but like ER there is an undercurrent of romance).

Her Name (action, violence)
Sweet Home (monsters)
Voice, Tunnel (crime, mystery)
Move to Heaven (family)

Hi, I just posted above. It’s My Name, not Her Name.

Thanks so much PPs! We have seen Squid Game (our tween got us into that one, eek), Sweet Home, Last Train to Busan (loved that it got a call-out in the teen zombie show — people *would* talk about zombie movies if the situation ever did arise!), and Parasite. Will check out others.

I’ve been excited to discover a “new” (to me!) source of shows, but I’m even happier that DC watches them. DH is Asian so she’s half, and I think it’s a really big deal for a kid to get to see whole shows full of people who look like her and not just the occasional token. DH has talked about how much representation has meant to him, even as an adult.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha was also addictive. Too sweet sometimes, but it made me feel good. Small town life.

For your family (no romance and guy-friendly), I'd also suggest: D.P (MPs who track down AWOL soldiers), Hot Stove League (underdog baseball team), and Prison Playbook (baseball player sent to jail for assault). If you can watch Squid Game, you will be able to tolerate all three.

Watching Mr. Sunshine right now. Historical fiction based on the Joseon era. Beautifully shot, compelling story. Some romance, but also a lot of battlefield, social class themes, interventionism, etc.
