The New York Times: Black NoVa Girl Says White Private School Classmates Cut Her Dreadlocks

Anonymous

There are six things that the Lord strongly dislikes, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

-Proverbs 6:16-19

At this point I am sure that the girl and her grandparents (maybe the reporter?) are praying for forgiveness. I am also pretty sure that everyone at that school is praying for them, as well. This whole thing has been a terrible shame.

Does anyone know anything more about exactly what type of gifts these were?

Interesting.

It was a basket of hair care products from the “locs” community. Locs advocates told her to stay strong and to “wear her crown.” If you look at Facebook and Pinterest, the phrase “wear your crown” is apparently something that Locs activists say in support of the hairstyle.

The grandmother, the Aunt, and Mikea Turner are all locs activists. It seems that’s how Turner knew the family, and that’s what makes me skeptical of the new story that this was a fib that got taken too far. It’s just too convenient.

Wow. That is quite a connection, given the false accusation here.
I guess the family and the reporter were unaware that the school had cameras on the playground.

I'm sure they had no clue that Mrs. Pence worked there as a PT Art teacher, either. Small world, ain't it?!!

Mikea Turner's initial "scoop" interview of the gal -- and every national broadcast that picked up this story -- mentioned Pence's wife was a teacher there.

She should be fired or fined (if that exists). Her twitter feed was so gleeful about breaking this news.

Fake news 101: never fire anyone...everyone knows "reporters" are entertainers any way.

Thank God they had cameras. Otherwise what would have happened to those boys?

Yellow Journalism.

It's like the McCarthy era, but with the whole country on trial, especially if white.

I'm sure everyone who is SO APPALLED by this girl's reported lie was equally appalled by the boys' reported behavior.

I found it hard to be appalled by something that obviously didn’t happen.

Some folks are addicted to fake news and fake outrage.

Seriously. Reread this thread and if you want to see some real scary comments go to that reporter's Youtube and Twitter accounts. Some posters were making comments about what they thought should happen to the boys....(scary). Can you imagine if random people were saying things like that about your elementary school age kid?

Thankfully the police and the school were able to get to the bottom of this. I don't know that the girl told the truth as much as she was caught in a lie because once the media began running with the story there was really no turning back for her I'm sure.

The kids were all placed into an extremely bad situation by certain adults rushing to judgement before all the facts were in.

The problem is this was a real girl and a real school and those boys were really falsely accused of things. There was a real police investigation and real reporters chose to make this national news.

The actual incident was false - thank goodness!
