Really??

Yes really, those little boys were just being white.

That is a racist comment.

How they can get in a child’s face and have her recount a trauma on film, and open her up to the ugliest commentary of the internet? We don’t know exactly what happened, and neither should we — this is not the public’s business. It’s only going viral because of Pence’s wife. This poor doubly victimized girl.

There is clearly more to this story. But, that is on the parents, not reporters, who probably called the news about the incident and they allowed their child to be photographed.

I heard (years ago) that parents sometimes watched the kids during recess at Immanuel, in order to give the students a break. Can anyone verify if that’s true?

* in order to give the teachers a break.

It was at recess and it’s pretty typical of small schools to have inadequate supervision at recess.

I went to a school like that. Bullying, sexual assault, destruction of personal property, drug and alcohol abuse, and smoking were all pretty common. School officials just like to pretend it doesnt happen because it doesnt fit their image.

One boy held her hands, one covered her mouth, one cut her locks, and they previously took lunch away from her? Called her hair nappy? How many white 12 year olds do you know who use the word nappy? I think this is the first time I am using it and I am 40. The family was really quick to alert the news. Sounds reminiscent to the N word incident on a school bus at Frost middle school 1-2 years ago.

Read the first review from 1/20/19 on Yelp--school sounds horrible, so I'm not surprised if this really happened.

I know, I’m so sorry to say that the first thing that occurred to me in reading about this was that white people don’t know and use the word “nappy.” I would think especially white teenage boys would have no idea what this means. It did make me fear that whatever happened was not exactly as the girl recounted.

Tell me more white person. Explain how this black girl made this up. Go on. Share your wisdom about these matters.

This was my thought too. Tested it out on my 14 yr old DS who is biracial (AA/white). He asked me what "nappy" meant, my DH doesn't use the term, I certainly don't, so he didn't know. It doesn't exactly come up in casual conversation.

Either way, it's not a good situation for the girl

Pretty sure that person is only saying that some of the story sounds paraphrased or perhaps embellished, not made up. We don't need to believer everything everyone says immediately and villify people without getting all the facts--remember the Duke lacrosse incident? And no, i'm not saying this is the same, I'm pointing out that not everything is always as it seems and there is no reason not to leave room for reasonable doubt.

Biracial person here— I haven’t heard many white people use that word either, although it’s still possible that one or more of the white boys did or that the girl is not remembering correctly. I saw her interviewed and she definitely looked distressed and was in tears, so either something traumatic happened, or she is an incredibly skilled and coached child actress. I think some sort of traumatic incident with the boys did happen, from seeing her interview.

Great sympathy for the girl regardless, and I hope the news reports aren’t wrong in this case

You'd rather a child actually be traumatized just to prove a point? I hope the reports are wrong and she did not get held down and assaulted.
