How can this happen?
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/27/us/dreadlocks-cut-off-immanuel-christian-school.html Local coverage: https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/virginia/boyspindowngirlcutherdreadlocks/65-73c8a4a3-b8fc-4b87-8c64-ebb194c99872 |
| And I just heard Lester talk about it on Nightly News. |
| I heard the story too. I wonder if the boys who did it get expelled? |
The article says they "stepped away" from school while it's being investigated. That sounds like a suspension. |
Since the school allowed this to happen. This young lady should get a new start at a different school and Immanuel Christian should cover the cost. |
| Immanuel Christian is an evangelical Christianist school typical of southern segregationist academies with the special distinction of having VP Pence's "mother" as a teacher. Of course it has white boys who think they can do whatever they want to a black girl. |
| how did no teachers see this happening? very very disturbing. |
|
They're talking about it in politics.
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/345/778524.page This is a disturbing story, even more so as it's supposed to be a "Christian" school. I am a Christian. |
| A girl this age should not have her name, face, and story all over the international news. Don’t reporters have children? How they can get in a child’s face and have her recount a trauma on film, and open her up to the ugliest commentary of the internet? We don’t know exactly what happened, and neither should we — this is not the public’s business. It’s only going viral because of Pence’s wife. This poor doubly victimized girl. |
It was at recess and it’s pretty typical of small schools to have inadequate supervision at recess. |
| There should so obviously be no rush to conclusions on this incident. |
Really?? |
Yes really, those little boys were just being white. |
| Terrible thing if this happened, and unfortunately there are many instances of bullying every day of thousands of kids that are never broadcast on the news. But yes, there should be no rush to judgment. At this point, it is an allegation by a girl whose family has chosen to put her in front of TV cameras. We'll see how it evolves. |
|
Yeah these terrible sensationalist news stories never ever turn out to be a bit different from what they seem at first
Great sympathy for the girl regardless, and I hope the news reports aren’t wrong in this case |
