How can this happen?

The police in Northern Virginia are investigating a report by a black 12-year-old girl that three white boys in her grade held her down, covered her mouth and cut off lengths of her dreadlocks on a playground at their private Christian school.

The girl, Amari Allen, who is in sixth grade, and her family spoke to media organizations this week about what she said happened to her on Monday on the playground of the school, Immanuel Christian School in Springfield.

The article says they "stepped away" from school while it's being investigated. That sounds like a suspension.

Since the school allowed this to happen. This young lady should get a new start at a different school and Immanuel Christian should cover the cost.

Immanuel Christian is an evangelical Christianist school typical of southern segregationist academies with the special distinction of having VP Pence's "mother" as a teacher. Of course it has white boys who think they can do whatever they want to a black girl.

This is a disturbing story, even more so as it's supposed to be a "Christian" school. I am a Christian.

A girl this age should not have her name, face, and story all over the international news. Don’t reporters have children? How they can get in a child’s face and have her recount a trauma on film, and open her up to the ugliest commentary of the internet? We don’t know exactly what happened, and neither should we — this is not the public’s business. It’s only going viral because of Pence’s wife. This poor doubly victimized girl.

It was at recess and it’s pretty typical of small schools to have inadequate supervision at recess.

Terrible thing if this happened, and unfortunately there are many instances of bullying every day of thousands of kids that are never broadcast on the news. But yes, there should be no rush to judgment. At this point, it is an allegation by a girl whose family has chosen to put her in front of TV cameras. We'll see how it evolves.

Yeah these terrible sensationalist news stories never ever turn out to be a bit different from what they seem at first

Great sympathy for the girl regardless, and I hope the news reports aren’t wrong in this case
