What are you talking about? People were really mad about it.

Seriously. Reread this thread and if you want to see some real scary comments go to that reporter's Youtube and Twitter accounts. Some posters were making comments about what they thought should happen to the boys....(scary). Can you imagine if random people were saying things like that about your elementary school age kid?

Thankfully the police and the school were able to get to the bottom of this. I don't know that the girl told the truth as much as she was caught in a lie because once the media began running with the story there was really no turning back for her I'm sure.

The kids were all placed into an extremely bad situation by certain adults rushing to judgement before all the facts were in.

I found it hard to be appalled by something that obviously didn’t happen.

Some folks are addicted to fake news and fake outrage.

The problem is this was a real girl and a real school and those boys were really falsely accused of things. There was a real police investigation and real reporters chose to make this national news.

The actual incident was false - thank goodness!

Those boys DO deserve reparations.

Maybe one day those boys, their parents and their teachers can talk about how these false accusations impacted them.

Agree. Imagine the stress and financial costs. The family of the girl should pay attorney fees.

I'm sure they want to remain as anonymous as possible. This story has made national news. Even after the girl has admitted to lying, and the family issuing an apology, there are STILL people saying that they still believe her original story. They think she was either pressured into recanting, or "paid off" to do so. These boys and their families would be putting a target on themselves by identifying themselves.

In case you missed it...here is what happened:

There were those who were appalled by something that was ALLEGED...which turned out to be false. They didn't wait for the facts.

Then, there were those who were appalled by something that ACTUALLY HAPPENED. They waited for the facts.

Sadly, I think you are right. Those kids are marked for life.

I sure don't think the boys' parents should be on the hook for any expenses associated with this hoax, nor should the school. Hopefully they were able to keep those costs to a minimum with the security camera footage.

Can you imagine the costs to those families and that school if they did not have those cameras. It's a scary thought!

Maybe WUSA can take responsibility for their irresponsible journalist and pay any expenses incurred by the boys' families or the school.

Thank goodness they were never names publicly. I can't imagine what they would have gone through for a week if they had been.

Do we know what actually happened though? Maybe they were bought off or threatened so she recanted.

Did you watch Unbelievable? It happens.

I think that there was a group of people who automatically believed the girl (she wouldn't lie about that!) and there was a group that thought that something seemed fishy about her story and weren't quite buying it. If security footage had confirmed the girl's story, then that would have been appalling to everyone. As it is, the security footage discounted the girl's claim and vindicated the boys.

Not much attention has been paid to what those boys and their parents must have been going through. No reporters are apologizing to the boys and those parents. The grandparents and the girl have suddenly stopped talking to the press. It's like....."Oh, you all can just move on now. Nothing to see here."
