Women cannot work, have a bank account, read or write. If they were married, hetrosexual, with no previous divorces, or 'sins' they would be a Econo-family. The wife is now a housewife who cannot be caught breaking any laws.

If they break laws, they take their children and the women are marthas or ritas (different roles in the book).

Heterosexual male doctors or nurses could keep their position if they followed the rules of Gilead.

Commander Lawrence and Mrs McKenzie eloped IRL.

Well, well, things are heating up.

Good episode, even if it was still a little slow.

I think Serena is stone cold setting Fred up.

June gets her mojo back and kind of saves everyone.

Muffins! Praise be!

Agree. Serena flashes that fake green finger at Fred like she invented emotional blackmail.

Fred clearly wanted what- simply to punish June by forcing the ceremony? “At least it wasn’t you”- IMO the best line of the entire series, and it hit him hard.

Fred's Punishment - I'm going to make sure you are raped by this weirdo.

June - rape me, I don't care, we'll show him

Commander and Mrs Lawrence are left emotionally scared, Fred and June are left the same psychopaths they were before.

June’s attitude was light years beyond “I don’t care,” and no part of her compliance and taking control of the situation had to do with getting back at Fred. Her comment to Fred and his reaction afterward were priceless, though.

Agreed. She understood what was necessary for survival, that's all. Her giving Lawrence tips on how to "get through it" was chilling. I'm always happy when she insults Fred but it is perplexing to me that he takes her guff rather than insisting on punishment at the good ole handmaids' center.

Fred is fixated on June, Serena knows it and is only putting up with him to get Nichole back.

Good episode, though I was bothered that June had to provide beforecare for the man she’s forced to have sex with.

Finally, a little spark of hope!

Why is the Waterford’s new condo decorated in a modern style?

I want a flashback of Commander Lawrence and Commander playing golf together. I’m sure they discussed the creation of Gilead while on the links. Lets see that.

It was nice to see June smile.

I’m bored of Lawrence and I think so far they’ve wasted a perfectly good Stabler. What is he doing there? He went all the way to Boston to look at some handmaids for a hot second and play along in Fred’s weird sex game?

Surveillance at Loaves and Fishes continues to be terrible.

Yeah, that was messed up, but made me think back to last week when Serena told June, "You were supposed to be one of the strong ones." That took strength and courage and also had the effect of waking Lawrence up to the fact that this is the reality he has imposed on countless people. Thus far, he's been able to insulate himself and comfort himself with gestures like "saving" 5 women from the Colonies by making them Marthas (also a form of slavery, as far as I can tell).

I think Fred is trying to push Lawrence out - partly b/c June's there but also b/c until recently he's been shown a great deal of deference and has had a lot of power.
