Still no footage of Smollett's attackers, but police have found more cameras and are checking the footage.

Chicago police have located more surveillance cameras in the area where Jussie Smollett was allegedly attacked, and the additional footage could bring them closer to learning what happened in the early hours of Jan. 29.

A police spokesman told reporters on Monday that new video was being “downloaded and reviewed.” Authorities are looking for more details about the incident, during which Smollett said he was accosted by two masked men who shouted homophobic and racial slurs and then wrapped a rope around his neck and poured an “unknown chemical substance” on him. One of the assailants, the actor later said, yelled “MAGA country!” as they left.

Though police have reviewed video evidence that Smollett had a rope around his neck when he arrived at his apartment building early on Jan. 29, they haven’t yet seen footage of the attack itself, according to Fox News. Security footage has led them to two unidentified persons of interest, and Smollett said his attackers seemed to know who he was, according to the Associated Press.

Agreed that that is an odd statement unless a journalist prompted him (ie “if it turns out to be a false claim, what will happen?”)

Great news! The CPD and the FBI are still very actively investigating this case. Although Smollet was only willing to hand over a "limited and redacted" version of his phone that's a huge step in the right direction and shows that law enforcement has no intention of giving up on this investigation wherever it may lead them. As a nation we need to find those murderous racists who were walking around screaming this is MAGA country in downtown Chicago at 2:00AM, noose and bleach in hand, and tried to lynch this -then largely unknown- actor in -20 degree weather no matter how long it takes.

On the off chance that this story is not 100% true "Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has said that Smollett, 36, was being treated as a crime victim, but would be held accountable if cops learn he filed a false report". Neighbors seem to doubt this story though.

Zero chance. The idea that two racists were walking about at 2am in -60 wind chill armed with bleach and a noose and that they happened upon and recognized some c list actor who they then decide to attack while screaming “magacountry” is laughable.

So . . . based on this -

. . . records “are not sufficient and do not meet the burden of a criminal investigation,” . . .

- are they saying there's nothing to go by, or will they continue to investigate to see if he's lying?

Or did they find something that was potentially embarrassing, which would cause an uproar, that they decided to keep under wraps??

I confess. I attacked Jesse Smollet.

I’m a Trump supporter, and after work, I drove from Bethesda to Chicago with my brother (also a Trump supporter) for the expressed purpose of beating up some random black guy.

Granted, we drove past literally millions of black people between here and Chicago, but once you have a plan, it’s best to stick with it.

Jussie Smollett is "pissed off" that people are questioning his story. The "gay Tupac" (yes he actually called himself that. google it for a good laugh) fired back at his doubters who questioned him about why he was not cooperating with police in turning his phone over. This guy needs to be made an example of what happens when you waste police resources in some imbecilic attempt to get recognition and cause a national uproar.

Affirmatively proving that it did not happen, as opposed to simply not being able to prove it did, is a pretty high hurdle.
