Comments on other sites have been speculating that the house fire is caused by some of the electrical problems we saw last night, and that the main culprit may be the washing machine, which has always been balky in this show. Interesting ideas! |
Yes, you're right ... ![]() |
ooh interesting, I like this theory. |
I thought the Kevin episode was fantastic. I think that actor is really good. Yes, definitely resorted to a monologue, but I think it was necessary for the storytelling -- you couldn't write an episode where he says that to another character, because a huge part of his problem is that he can't talk about any of this to anyone. I loved how the doctor followed him out of the reception, and you thought she was a kind person who would maybe break through to him, but no -- she just wanted to hook up with him, and I think she was he was in a moment of weakness and she might have a chance. Shows how almost nobody cares what's beneath the exterior with Kevin, and how that makes him feel.
I am not a crier, but I did tear up at the end when he is begging that doctor for his necklace back. And you think about how devastating it would be to have your dreams crushed (football) and then just a few months later lose your dad, and in particular how hard that would be after you spent 6-12 months being a total jerk to him because you can't handle his weakness (being an alcoholic). And how much you'd give anything to do it over again. It was heartbreaking when he was finally ready to confess everything to Randall -- and then Kate's tragedy upending his, and the light at the end of the tunnel went out. Love this show and the characters. Are there moments when they're self absorbed, whiny, or annoying? Sure. Just like real people. |
Agree with PP. It made me see Kevin and hi situation in a completely different light. I even called my dad after the episode! |
as someone who has been on here saying I was starting to be over this show, i have to say, i have really enjoyed the last 2 episodes. Hoping it keeps up. |
I hope Kevin got the necklace back! |
Agree! My theory: (not a spoiler, just a guess) He lost the necklace on the football field. The coach, who said during his speech that HE KNEW HIS DAD (dramatic pause) will find it and recognize it. (Maybe the coach got close to the Jack during the football season? Or after Kevin's injury? or perhaps from AA???) He'll recognize the necklace and get in touch with Kevin and help him with his addiction. (Fingers crossed!!) |
TBH I kind of hope that the necklace is gone. its more raw and real as a story if not everything wraps up OK- in fact the whole episode was about Kevin always getting a break and things handed to him even when his behavior is wrong and shitty- if it magically finds its way back to him, its kind of BS |
The Hallmark Channel called. They want their plotline back. |
I thought the same thing when I saw the electrical issues in that episode. Glad to know I'm not the only one! |
when they went to a commercial me and hubby were both like surely they are not going down that road w/all that's going on w/Roy Moore these days. |
Don't forget all the candles too! |
What's up with the stainless steel fridge in the kitchen during the high school flashbacks? |
+1 I think he should win an Emmy for that episode. He was so believable as an addict who's just spiraling out of control and hitting rock bottom. And the kid who plays the younger Kevin is *excellent.* He was such an arrogant asshole, but then we see this wonderful scene with him and Jack in the hospital after Kevin's accident. That just tore my heart out. His vulnerability came out. His mannerisms, way of talking, etc. are exactly like the older Kevin. Remarkable casting. Same with Kate. I thought it was well done when we think he's going to sleep with the high schooler, and then winds up in bed with the other woman. Phew. And it was heartbreaking when he was begging her to return his dad's necklace. |
