It wasn't THAT scary. I lived in Cville from Aug. '94-Aug.'97 and I wasn't scared.

Are you one of the posters who thinks it's okay? safe? smart? to walk around a town or city when under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs by yourself?

No one has claimed that walking around drunk is smart or should be encouraged. But there are times when walking is a better choice than driving while drunk or getting a ride with a drunk person.

Young adults are going to go out. They are going to drink at times and they might have "one too many". And usually they'll be able to walk from point A to point B in a college town w/o incident.

1:00am in a college environment ain't that late, btw.

I hope you don't have a daughter! Walking around drunk or high alone at 1:00AM is not smart. Kids drink and get high. I would suggest to them use the buddy system.

Not pp, but I'm wondering what your collage experience was like, because you seem to have no idea how commonplace this kind of behavior is, and how low-risk it is.

Do you have any idea how many students get drink and/or high late on a weekend night, all across America? Go to bars/clubs/parties, etc? The VAST majority of the time, the worst thing that happens is they get hungover or have vomiting. This kind of thing happens very, very, VERY rarely compared to the overwhelming majority of people that go out late and drink. I didn't do it that often in college or grad school, or even studying abroad, because it's not my thing. But I never knew of anything truly awful happening to anyone. Well, I know of one person who got mugged, which sucked, but that's really the worst of it.

I feel really bad for those of you that live in paranoid worlds.

Not if in a group, but yes it is when alone. Hannah's parents have given the same advice--stay in a group.

Can you guys keep this topic on point, please? We can debate college drinking somewhere else. This is about hannah graham.

Again - no one is saying it is a smart thing to do. No one is encouraging young people to do that. I hope that my own kids don't do a lot of that sort of thing when they go to college (I don't think that they will). And YES the buddy system is best! At the same time I do believe in personal freedom and assessing risk in real terms.

At this point, it appears that dreadlocks guy is a major sleazebag. And while I HATE sleazebags, it's not illegal to be a sleazebag, and doesn't mean he did anything nefarious.

Have people checked local nooks and crannies? I know people are searching the woods, but what about stairwells, closets, rooftops, basements, tiny old alleyways? I wonder if Hannah passed out from intoxication, and maybe chocked (fatally) on vomit somewhere where she may have sat down for some relief.

Foul play is possible. It's also possible that her disappearance was a total accident.

Hannah Graham who was out at night at UVA after going to two parties reported to be drunk or high stumbling ALONE at 1:00AM?

I think we are on topic.

Let's teach our girls to be smart. Use the buddy system.

You're being dramatic. Do you have any idea how many girls are out, engaging in drinking, on a weekend night, with absolutely nothing happening to them? Exceedingly rare cases like this are incredibly tragic, but they are the exception (by FAR) as opposed to the rule.

I wonder what impact that will have because she's not American, she's from Britain.

Let's teach our girls to not let drunk friends wander off alone. When you're the drunk one you're not thinking about the buddy system ...
