If I hear the name Alexandra, rest assured, it's a Russian kid. For Pete's sake, there are plenty of other international-sounding names. Julia, Anna, Kristina...Michael, Andrew, Mark...take your pick

I know an Anastasia that is Russian But she goes by Staci. . .I like Anastasia better.

I knew an Anastasia who went by Sia. Don't know if she was Russian though, but I thought it was a cool nickname.

24 pages and neither of my kids are named! Wahoo!
Seriously though, what is it with Hazel? That name is really unattractive....

What I think is really at play here is the absolutely over-use of names. My sister has a Jackson and a Hannah - jackson is a family name and hannah is her oldest friend...but unfortunately that meaning is lost.

I have a dear friend whose son is Jasper - a family name, again, the meaning is lost.

Another friend whose daughter is MacKenzie - about 13 now - but again, lost importance...

oh well....

how does importance get lost just because a name gets popular? Maybe novelty wears off, but I'm sure those names are still just as meaningful to your friends

I'm the first poster and you're correct, better said than I did....

My girlfriend named her son Beckham, and it's on my list of unliked names. Wonder if your cousin is my friend!

There's a Maximus in my son's school, and I could do without that name. There's also a boy in my son's class named "Ikaika." My son (3.5) can't say the name and calls him "Kanka." I find it quite hysterical, but the boy's mother doesn't.

DS had a daycare teacher named Ikea. Not a good baby name.

We have two Jamies at work and they are around 39 or early forties. They are FINE men, they work hard and are very liked in the office!

DH has cousin who is very artsy (and a little judgmental of those of us who are not). Her kids' names have now ended up on the most popular list for the last ten years. She is horrified that their names are so, so, so pedestrian. Sometimes I worry her kids will overhear her or catch wind of her distress. Conversely she patronizes us at how could we have possibly come up with such normal, but not routine, names for own DCs. I wonder if she will ever just accept + move on.

Shocking. I thought that any man named Jamie was automatically pure evil. Glad to hear I'm wrong.

I'm not going to bother with the previous posts but just take this opportunity to ask why on earth anyone would name their daughter Maddie? It sounds so awfully masculine and angry. How did it get so dang popular?

I like how you put in a good word for them. On an anonymous board. LOL.
