Kids want to be with friends they know and they all think HS is just club 2.0 and it isn’t.

It’s a zero sum game, and they don’t realize the grad year above you and two years above you are already there and just as talented.

Big difference playing against girls 2-3 years older than you that likely have had more time in the weight room. Bigger, faster, stronger.

The kids and families that have a patient mindset going in tend to be the most successful.

Bar for admission is lower than for many other schools and price tag (pre-financial aid, scholarship, etc) is more affordable.

I think everyone in the region knows the deal with MV. No need to rub it in. If they want to pick a school for lacrosse, that's their business. The school isn't quite as rigorous academically as some others, but it's not a bad school.

I wasn’t rubbing anything in, I was just stating an objective reason why this is more of an option for some kids. I believe the education is good and they have a lot to offer. And, depending on merit and aid offered from other schools, it can end up being much cheaper.

This is so true. The girls and parents of 8th graders who start on a good club team believe that means they will make and contribute to varsity as freshman at A conference schools.

They are coming into programs that have top players in each grad year above them. Bigger, faster and with more experience. It takes a special talent to excel as a 14 year old competing against 15-18 year olds. So they go to Maryvale, McD, SPSG and assume they will be a star out of the box. It’s nuts.

I think they also just don’t realize the influence of politics and just how few girls get chances/playing time at some schools. Some HS coaches do a better job than others, but at some HS you’re lucky if you get decent minutes at practice.

So kids transferring from MV? I honestly don’t know if the super team is good for IAAM or the majority of kids at MV who spend majority of games on sideline

Agree, but if you’re not getting minutes at MV - where do you go? NDP? SPSG? It’s not like they don’t also have huge benches and JV teams. Unless you’re one of the HoCo public school girls, the next steps seem risky too.

Now, overestimating their daughter's talent level is a different thing. To make an impact as a 9th-10th grader at these top programs, you have to be one of the top 2-3 players on your top 20 club, and probably the best player at your position on that team. That's the standard.

Are the benches double what you see for HoCo public schools?

Also for these IAAM private lax powerhouses, I assume they recruit girls. The only scholarships they offer are needs based or academic merit? Figuring to get the top talent they may sometimes need to give a full scholarship but if the family has $$ then they just try to make the merit fit?

Anywhere else in the MIAA -A conference. It's not like Maryvale has historically been notable, they were barely a 500 team until around 4 years ago.
