F. He has never been convicted of a crime in El Salvador OR in the U.S., so sending him to PRISON in El Salvador makes no sense
.

That is not true. Stop lying.

He was convicted of a restraining order for domestic violence. His wife admitted he abused her for THREE YEARS. Get your facts straight!

That is not a conviction my friend and it doesn’t negate someone’s right to due process. You can be a shit person and still deserve due process, just like every shit person is entitled to a robust defense in court. And it matters for us all that we don’t just say due process doesn’t matter.

Chris Van Hollen is prioritizing bringing one really “shit person” (who is probably a former gang member) to the USA even though he is a citizen of El Salvador, and not a U.S. citizen.

That’s the gist here.

No, he’s prioritizing due process, rule of law, checks and balances, and the US Constitution.

Not by going to El Salvador to grand stand for himself. The Supreme Court is the venue now for prioritizing due process.

Is Garcia even alive? That’s what he’s checking on. So far, it looks like no.

No, he was looking to get headlines to aggrandize himself. Let the system work it out - it actually was working. If he was genuinely concerned he would have worked through more subtle foreign channels like a friendly consulate, church or NGO.

Purely a political stunt. Nothing more.

The entire episode is a political stunt. Fight fire with fire I guess.

Please share the link when one democrat stood up for her when she was beaten up in 2020 several times or when she was granted a restraining order? Please provide any information about what money or services was provided to her so she does not need to depend on the abuser and bag for his return to support her.

Seeing the mom from Maryland talk about her murdered daughter at yesterday’s press briefing affected me to the core. Where was Van Hollen for her? She is his constituent. He is a horrible person

Didn’t affect me anymore than all the other mothers and family members who have tragically had a person murdered in this country. I’m not about to through out due process and law because of her one story. Especially when the corrupt Trump administration is using her pain to help destroy the country. And particularly not when the President has 34 felony counts and freed tried and convicted J6 folks and actively supports harm to Americans.

What happen to her is a tragedy. I promise you it’s not bigger than the travesty of police officials who continue to violate the rights of normal Americans.

So little compaction for women from the democrats. Garcia's wife is a victim of domestic abuse and no one is speaking up for her. Why women suddenly became a second class citizens in the eyes of Democrats?

What do you mean nobody is speaking up for her? She is speaking for herself and Democrats are supporting her. Why do you have so little regard for women that you think they can't make their own decisions?

He is self-aggrandizing through his trip; nothing more.

He does not care about “people;” he only cares about his own image and career.

Dems have lots of "compaction" for women. We have compassion for all of Trump's sexual assault victims, including his wife. We have compassion for Pete Hegseth's victim and all the other women who have been abused by people in Trump's administrations, past and present. Why do MAGA only have compassion for women who are the victims of undocumented migrants, especially when those migrants are Hispanic?

Are you saying it is only MAGA who have compassion for Garcia's victim (his wife)? That democrats do not care about her at all?

MAGAs don't understand this is about more than just extracting one person from El Salvador. This sets the precedent on whether we'll be able to extract anyone sent mistakenly to the El Salvador concentration camp. We should be able to get anyone back, even if he's a violent criminal.

How is it legal for the foreign government to exercise any power over the citizens of El Salvador in El Salvador?

The Salvadorean government is not holding Garcia in prison because he is a citizen of that country. The official reason that the Salvadorean VP gave to Van Hollen for the continued detention of Garcia is that "the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador" to keep him locked up. In other words, they are keeping him imprisoned because Trump paid them (and told them) to do so. The corollary of that is that Trump could request that Garcia be released from jail at any time.

Because ES is only keeping him locked up bc the US is paying them to do so. If we stopped giving our money to ES he’d be released.

Anonymous wrote:The crazy thing is how many people are just BUYING he was in a gang. There’s no proof or record of this. He went before immigration court and provided compelling documentation and testimony that was found internally and externally consistent and credible that he was *not gang affiliated* but the Trump admin literally just says he was- just says it!- and suddenly people think it’s ok for someone with legal status to be shipped to a foreign prison. You think you’re safe because YOU have never been in a gang? This is the whole point: if Trump gets away with this, you don’t ever have to done anything wrong in your whole life for him to just SAY you did and off you go to foreign prison. You don’t HAVE to have a criminal record or any charges- they’ll just say you did and that’s now good enough. It’s unreal people can’t see how dangerous that is to allow.

Share the link to compelling documentation and testimony, por favor.

A foreign country can choose who they incarcerate based on their own rules. What power does US have to tell them what to do with their own citizens?

So? He’s at worst like every fricking MAGA in government who boot lick for their jobs while selling out the people who elected them.

Was this reason given in writing or were there a video of his response? I have not seen it anywhere other than a news media publication without any links.

They don’t seem to understand that sending someone to prison in a foreign land without due process or a trial or charges or anything….is wrong!
