Some of the independent reports I have seen about the impact of tariffs on Canada's GDP as early as 6 months is insane. I think the biggest damage though will be on a friendship level. You always want to maintain good friendship with your immediate neighbor even if they need more than you need them. Canada is just far from everyone else if they want to diversity. This really sucks.

The question that I really ask myself is whether there is a select group of people in this country who are set to be very big winners. This is a case where inside information can help you bet against the market and then you reap massive profits while everyone else is struggling. Unfortunately we will probably not know until months or even years later that some people where knowledgeable about the timing of all of this and took positions to enrich themselves.

Even if a select group will be big winners, anyone that wants to “win big” while destroying their nation’s reputation is a psychopath.

Fam, they are literally posting their playbook online. Project 2025 and the tech billionaires are doing this on purpose. They are your big winners.

Of course it is. I woke up on November 8th and cried. And then we moved money, bought food and started passport applications for other countries. This was the plan in blinking red lights from the moment he announced he was running again. We are headed into a depression, if not WWIII. Learn to grow food.

It is unless the GOP grows a spine by Friday or should nature intervene.

This is literally what the Republican ran on. Of course it's happening. Who on earth thought it was a good decision and voted for these greedy f*ckwads, I'll never know and understand.

I can kind of understand LC MAGA voters...wages are stagnant and inflation is high. Obviously I wouldn't have made the same choice but these people have nothing left to lose and no capital to begin with. What I will never understand and never forgive is smart people who should know better about the economy who still voted for this. They're about to lose it all and for what?

Well, psychopaths is exactly what they are - Trump, Elon, Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, David Sacks. They will watch us squirm while our retirement savings, 529s go down and they are laughing all the way to their crytpo bank.

There are no smart Trumo voters. There are 2 kinds: stupid, and monumentally selfish ("I got mine" "I meant go after those other people, not me!")

I'll also never forgive the people who voted 3rd party, or didn't vote at all.

Either shortly after midnight the tariffs are postponed yet again or at some point this week we get another attention seeking headline that Canada and Mexico compromised on "something" and the tariffs are on pause again for some time.

I generally agree with you but am now 50/50 on this outcome, before I thought it was an 80% chance of delay/cancel. I think they are smoking their own supply now.

Tariffs are one of the few things Trump legitimately believes in. He's an idiot who has a childish bully's view of the world- trade deficits are bad to him because he thinks other countries are taking advantage of us. He literally doesn't understand that exporting less than you import isn't a problem. Anyway all that to say I think he's really going to follow through on this.

He announced it’s happening tomorrow (Tuesday).

Yes, but a number of times he has "announced it" and then backed away hours before actual implementation. So there is some reason/history to be skeptical.

They’ll blame Biden then when that doesn’t work Trump will blame Musk. You just know he’s the fall guy. He’s too autistic to see it.

Who can you be the "fall guy" when you have billions? He'll just wreck everything and walk away unscathed.

My husband is convinced this is going to end with him in a guillotine.
