How long till the economy collapses?

Some of the independent reports I have seen about the impact of tariffs on Canada's GDP as early as 6 months is insane. I think the biggest damage though will be on a friendship level. You always want to maintain good friendship with your immediate neighbor even if they need more than you need them. Canada is just far from everyone else if they want to diversity. This really sucks.

The question that I really ask myself is whether there is a select group of people in this country who are set to be very big winners. This is a case where inside information can help you bet against the market and then you reap massive profits while everyone else is struggling. Unfortunately we will probably not know until months or even years later that some people where knowledgeable about the timing of all of this and took positions to enrich themselves.

Even if a select group will be big winners, anyone that wants to “win big” while destroying their nation’s reputation is a psychopath.

Well, psychopaths is exactly what they are - Trump, Elon, Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, David Sacks. They will watch us squirm while our retirement savings, 529s go down and they are laughing all the way to their crytpo bank.

This is my worry.

Of course it is. I woke up on November 8th and cried. And then we moved money, bought food and started passport applications for other countries. This was the plan in blinking red lights from the moment he announced he was running again. We are headed into a depression, if not WWIII. Learn to grow food.

Where are you considering going?

The posters on this thread don’t get the real threat. $36 TRILLION of debt. Think about that. The interest in that debt is over $1 TRILLION a year. If/when the country defaults on its debt, your liberal agendas won’t add up to diddly squat. The govt has a spending problem and as DOGE is clearly finding, a ton of money is wasted on programs that don’t benefit America. Time to cut the fat and there is a lot of it in the Federal Govt. I’ve seen plenty. Reducing strangulating and duplicative regulation will reduce the need for the huge bureaucracy.

Yes this is the real threat, and MAGA is going to fix it by adding trillions to the debt via tax cuts for billionaires. You are so smart!

Meanwhile, we give many billions to Israel a year without blinking.

Look, most people understand that we need to reduce federal spending and staffing - but thoughtfully and more slowly. And it should also include a sh!t ton of reduced military spending, too.

What DOGE is doing is not going to help the country one bit.

Either shortly after midnight the tariffs are postponed yet again or at some point this week we get another attention seeking headline that Canada and Mexico compromised on "something" and the tariffs are on pause again for some time.

I generally agree with you but am now 50/50 on this outcome, before I thought it was an 80% chance of delay/cancel. I think they are smoking their own supply now.

Tariffs are one of the few things Trump legitimately believes in. He's an idiot who has a childish bully's view of the world- trade deficits are bad to him because he thinks other countries are taking advantage of us. He literally doesn't understand that exporting less than you import isn't a problem. Anyway all that to say I think he's really going to follow through on this.

He announced it’s happening tomorrow (Tuesday).

Yes, but a number of times he has "announced it" and then backed away hours before actual implementation. So there is some reason/history to be skeptical.

That doesn’t calm the market, which will just think he’ll throw a tantrum and do it again.

I wish. Unfortunately I think this is about the level of understanding of the average Trump voter. Idiots that are destroying the country with their vicious ignorance.

+1 my god, why can’t MAGA pick up a newspaper. The budget that passed is on track to increase spending by $85M this year alone, despite massive firings.

And you seem so dumb that you don’t seem to realize that the giant Trump tax cuts are going to raise the deficit.

No if you watch Fox all the time..you would believe that and you would also believe that the 4% of the budget that makes up discretionary spending is the best place to look for savings (while defunding the IRS that brings in $$ and giving tax breaks to the wealthy)

Yeah, sorry, you Republicans have no credibility when it comes to debt. Your plan - as we speak - is to add another $4 trillion to the debt. And your DOGE nihilism isn't saving a nickel. The Republican plan is to turn this country into a debt-ridden oligarchy - just like Russia.

Get off Murdoch's propaganda fox box. Seriously! Aim to take a more neutral stance. Read multiple foreign news sources then do what God intended us to do - think and form your own opinion. From your post you sound just like what the thought control MAGA is promoting.

Somehow Republicans are firing lots of feds, but not touching the defense contracts that are huge money wasters or all the aid to Israel.

Now that we aren't going to be in NATO don't need all those bases in Europe and could just walk away and give them to the countries and we would still save money. Won't need all those troops either. That would all help.
