VDA

It’s always development when the teams aren’t winning. Then it’s recruiting time to achieve the winning. True at all clubs though.

Will it though? Seems like they might be due for some change at that age group. 2011s and 2012s are underperforming and only win games where they have a physical or athletic advantage on a team. Don't know the guy but seems like he'd be better suited for older girls or boys from what I've heard.

According to VDA that age is more about development. At the townhall they showed that at those ages they try to keep playing time more equal, but starting at u15 it becomes merit based to push a more competitive environment. Doing well in practice that week - may get you more play time than someone who isn't.... which could impact wins and losses for sure. Maybe I am wrong in the way I interpreted that - but to me you can't look too much into the results at those ages, but more on the player development.

Have you seen them play at that age? Development is the last thing that comes to mind. Regression might even apply for some of the players. All they do is kick the ball and run so maybe the defense is developing or their strikers. Not really a place to refine a middy. From what I've seen over the years VDA is more of a test of who can thrive in spite of the environment for the first few seasons. As they recruit developed players from other clubs, the teams get stronger U15 and up. Let's just say that if teams had to pay transfer fees VDA would have the heaviest books.

Does VDA play a consistent formation and system across the age levels or does it differ by coach?

What was going on at the tryouts tonight? No numbers assigned, a few younger coaches sort of just watching from the side? How do they assess potential players?

You should email the coach and ask. No numbers is unbelievable.

About 60 kids. Lots of coaches watching. Coach did a parent talk at the end. One of the better organized tryouts DD has attended over the years.

You don't need numbers for an ID because you already have a team and likely only a few spots to fill. On top of that, when they see a player stand out, they pull them to the side and note their info. Don't confuse the system as "fair" but it's just. They'll invite them to a practice or in the case of a brand new team, continue making their short list.

It’s ruthless here. One day to the next if my kid doesn’t perform, they don’t get to play.

Love it. Contrast Arlington, where merit-based decisions would result in near 100% turnover in the 2013 team given the strong turnout this weekend, but people are chattering about current team parents who are close to people on the board . . .
