I'd say her chances are rapidly diminishing: Nimarata Haley acknowledges Trump committed federal crimes; vows to pardon him if she's elected. https://themessenger.com/politics/nikki-haley-vows-she-would-pardon-trump-if-shes-president
Does she even realize she can't pardon him for state crimes? And what is so hard about saying slavery ignited the Civil War and it was wrong? |
Come on, cartoon. She’s a tool of white supremacy. She’d complete the word as “bravery,” not “drapery.” |
| Like most politicians at that level, a corrupt liar. But more palatable than the other corrupt liars. |
Perhaps, but she has shown herself to be weak and feckless. How will she deal with all the crises that a U.S. president deals with on a daily basis? |
But it’s a dumb lie. Serves no purpose. Confederates committed treason in defense of slavery. That’s why the Civil War happened. Just say it and move on. |
If it was a “given” that it was about slavery, why were the first words out of her mouth after being asked the question “Well don’t come with an easy question or anything.” If it is such a “given” and everyone knows the right answer, why was she annoyed by the question? |
|
Does anyone remember the Simpsons episode when Apu studied for the U.S. citizenship exam and was asked basically this same question, and also attempted to answer with nuance and complexity but then was told “just say slavery”?
I’m a moderate middle aged gay female. I would love to see someone sane, healthy, and human in office. Haley is better than Biden or Trump. Her civil war answer is not enough to prove she is incompetent. Remember who we are comparing to. |
Haley said, “It’s bigger than slavery.” I’m just wondering, what’s bigger than slavery? |
She won't admit the Civil War was over slavery. She will sign an abortion ban if one comes to her desk. Hard pass. |

I was told by more than one teacher and college professor that it wasn't "slavery" but "states rights" or some economics of the South, fueled by slavery.
So, numerous historical sources don't necessarily agree that "slavery" is the number one reason the Civil War was fought. |
This is from the PBS.org website: What led to the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in the history of North America? A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. In fact, it was the economics of slavery and political control of that system that was central to the conflict. A key issue was states' rights. https://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/feature/causes-of-the-civil-war/ Poor Nikki Haley actually thinks she's speaking to people who studied and did their homework during American history class, not people who think in terms of one word answers. |
If you're implying that her answer was more complex and nuanced--heck, even educated or intellectual--then you'd be wrong. It was a word salad that was compounded by the fact that she was trying really hard not to offend the RWNJ base. Not to mention that, as a group, left-leaning voters tend to be better educated than right-wing ones (backed up by stats). |
States rights to.....keel slavery legal. Please. |
Biden is twice as good as she is, and he is neither a forced birther or a white supremacist. Bonus: the Democratic Party isn’t bent on fascism like the GOP is, “moderate.” No one supporting the GOP and Project 2025 and forced birther crap and some people being above the law is a moderate, no matter how you try to comfort yourselves. |
