It was certainly hard to understand with a 1996 view of it. Don't rewrite history. |
| When is the actual vote or hearing on this bill? |
Nothing is rewritten educate yourself. You can’t turn to fast or you will spin out of control. |

I wonder how much traction this bill still has. There was another traffic stop that yielded a large amount of drugs.

This is the third press release regarding traffic stops that MCPD has released since Councilmember Will Jawando introduced Bill 12-23, the Safety and Traffic Equity in Policing (STEP) Act, on February 28, which will limit traffic stops that he says have resulted in racial disparities. Per MCPD: “Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Community Action Team have arrested 38-year-old Harry Perkins of Germantown for Possessing Fentanyl and Crystal Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. At approximately 11:35 p.m., officers observed a Chevrolet Equinox commit a moving violation in the area of Circle Gate Dr. and Wisteria Dr. Officers initiated a traffic stop of the Chevrolet in the area of Great Seneca Hwy. and Wisteria Dr. Officers made contact with the driver and Perkins, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet. Perkins initially provided a false name to officers in attempt to avoid prosecution. Through investigative means, officers were able to positively identify Perkins and determined that there were 4 active warrants for Perkins’ arrest. Officers asked Perkins to exit the Chevrolet to place him under arrest. When Perkins exited the Chevrolet, officers observed drug paraphernalia on the passenger seat, providing officers probable cause to search the Chevrolet. |
More police harassment of small minority-owned businesses. |
| It's so great they are taking the time to write press releases about catching small scale drug dealers in traffic stops while offering little in terms of a strategy for stopping repeated carjackings or getting large numbers of guns off the streets (randomly finding guns during traffic stops occasionally doesn't make me feel safer at all). |
Please speak to your council members then. We have a greatly diminished police force right now and little hope for recruiting the numbers we used to get. Recruits just aren’t coming here since they will be treated better elsewhere. |
Personally, I like hearing about these types of traffic stops because otherwise people will be complaining that the police aren’t doing anything about the drug problem. I’m also glad these drugs are being taken off the streets. I don’t know if this was for his personal use or if he really did intend on selling them, but these particular pills won’t be sold. Like you, I am also concerned about the carjackings in shootings I have been happening. I want to see action and I want to see these issues addressed as well. Like the previous poster mentioned, write your council members and express your feelings. They need to hear from everybody. |
Why TF should we hire more officers to keep not doing their jobs? |
Great work by the Moco police! I think we have one of the best police forces; it's just too bad that there aren't enough police to deal with the growing crime problem. |
It's just too bad they aren't willing to do their jobs |
This is a bad attempt at trolling. Those of us paying attention are well aware that isn’t the case. |
"Those of us paying attention" is code for people who believe everything MCPD sys but don't look too closely at what they are actually saying |
