Well there have been multiple events with staff and students over the years. A few staff arrests. The under the 2nd floor steps sex scene posted of facebook live by an 18yr old "freshman" immigrant and a 14yr old. Multiple sexual assaults, and few drug overdoses (at least 2 this year in school) and the drug sales and partaking in the bathrooms. The known avoidance of the 3rd floor bathroom. A lot of fights and bullying and yes, wonderful diversity but these kids rarely mix unless it is for sports. The IB kids mix with no one, so it is basically JW kids entering a slightly larger school. So if you hate JW, you will hate RM.

Not true.

My IB kid has non IB friends.

JWMS sucked.

RMHS is much better, both my kids have stated this.

Also there are several former JWMS kids in IB magnet.

I have not heard of the OD in school this year. Where did you get that?

Both schools have a strong academic opportunities, but I would say RM goes above and beyond because of the extensive IB offerings. My younger child is currently in their junior year of the IB program and has really enjoyed it. Our base school is Wooten fwiw.

Here you go OP. A parent who lives in Wootton but has a child at RM. The rest of the posts (myself included) are meaningless because most of us don't have kids in both clusters. This PP does.

Hard to give to much credence to that poster when they say have “Wooten” as their base school. Doesn’t quite suggest they really know enough about the school to compare it to RM.

This made me laugh. And even if the person actually has someone in the Wootton cluster, they didn't go to Wootton because they went into the IB program. But yes, a troll for sure.

The ^^PP said "younger child is at RMIB". Presumably, their older kid was at wootton. My kid was at Barnsely HGC, and I still spell it incorrectly every time.

I have a kid at Wotton and spell it wrong half the time because I'm typing on a phone or even dictating. I get that you may like what they wrote but it doesn't make it untrue.

RM is JW and IB kids. JW is a terrible middle school and once you get into RM, the IB kids keep to themselves. So many discipline issues at RM. Vaping, drugs, overdoses, fights, sex, sexual assaults, and now guns on campus 2 incidents 10 days apart.

Wootton has Frost and part of Cabin John. No IB but so many high course offerings as the school is competitively smart. The administration is good and the its a very involved school. the negatives is it is pretty high pressure like the IB program and the school isn't as new and nice as RM. And parking is the worst.

But when the kids on the team talk, Wootton kids jaws drop when they hear what typical RM days are like and it's gotten worse every year. I don't hate the school. I love the diversity and school spirit, but it isn't a school to be that proud of. Without IB it is basically Rockville High School.

We’re at RM now and so far so good. The recent incidents there were concerning but the administration appears to be on top of it. But we’re watching it closely and will voice concerns—as will lots of families—if we feel things aren’t being handled well. We’ve known lots of kids who have gone through RM and done very well. Some were in the IB, others were not but took advantage of the honors and AP classes the school has to offer. They also have lots of activities beyond sports for students to get involved in. The dramatic arts—aka Black Maskers—is a great group of kids that puts on very good performances.

I also have to disagree with PP about JW. It’s a great school. The principal does a great job of leading the school and setting the tone. And they have many great teachers—some have been there a long time. We loved our time there.

You slightly had me until here. I have never heard anyone say JW is a great school and the principal isn't even there this year

Went to JW orientation, and principal had recorded message. Where is the principal?

Another school for the year. There is an interim principal and it’s like lord of the flies this year. Worse than I have ever seen and 3rd kid going thru

He does this every year. I have not seen a Principal who is MIA that much in all my 10 yrs in MCPS. It's no wonder he's disengaged at JW.

My kid is in 8th grade and I never knew they had an AP. Never saw her. Never met her. My DD didn’t know there was one either. But yes principal has been gone since November at a Gaithersburg cluster.

Hopefully, they'll be rezoned to Wootton so you can change the headline.

Extra curricular activity. Maybe kid wanted to include in his college app

Wootton has a more engaged and less problematic student body. The school isn’t as nice and there aren’t stores, fast food places nearby, but it is safer and has less fights, drugs in school, etc… it isn’t perfect but I have had 2 go to W and 1 go RM. Youngest didn’t even apply to IB and will go to W. RM does have better sports teams on the whole.

There is a reason homes are pricier in the Wootton district. RM fills a subpar school with IB to make it near the testing scores of Wootton that has not one magnet program.

So sad. I hate to see our youth throw away their futures like this.

Does JWMS have subpar scores? Because you know that RM only has one MS, right? and that's JW. Do the JW kids all of a sudden become subpar when they go to RMHS?

He's 18. He won't be coming back to RM. And with Crown HS, we don't know what RM or Wootton will look like.

Well yes but obviously he doesn’t care and I am sure if his family cares either.

Hadn’t seen this story. Thanks for posting. I have a kid at RM and this is yet another disturbing story in a collection of many.
