Dear Richard Montgomery High School Community,

I share this message with a mix of concern and relief. Today, in collaboration with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and MCPS security, our school administration successfully intervened to confiscate a loaded handgun from one of our students. The initial alert from MCPD raised a potential threat, prompting swift coordination between the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD), school administration, and security.

Yeah but Wootton has the homophobic kids from the football team harassing local gay people from their parents Lexus’s…… both schools need to do more about the environment that just churn out their test scores.

What was that incident?

I have kids at RM. Yes - there is a strong cohort of students outside IB. These students would fit in well academically at schools like Wootton.

Yes - there are um…rougher students who attend as well. The stronger, non-IB group will most likely not have many classes, belong to same clubs or socialize with the rougher cohort.

yep, I'm the PP who talked to my DC about the incident today, and they weren't phased.

They don't know this person. My DC is in AP/IB classes, but they aren't in the IB magnet.

I went to really rough HS out in the west coast, like with real gangs. I hardly ever crossed paths with those kids.

I'm not happy about all these incidents, but outside certain groups of kids, RM is a good school with many high achieving kids, and lots of programs and clubs. Both my kids really like RM.

I also prefer the imaginary gangs we have in MCPS to the real ones from the west coast.

so out of touch. idiot parents w/ idiot kids at RM
Yo be fair to PP, I'm not sure RM has a gang problem. Gaithersburg, Seneca Valley, and Spring Brook, OTOH, do. That said, a loaded gun does point in that direction.

yea, that sucks. Thankfully, this incident was handled quickly, and the student was not trying to threaten other students.

My DC is has a lot of anxiety, but they seemed pretty calm about this incident today.

Because it was the 4th gun incident in like 6 months. Two this year and two late last year.

It’s no big deal anymore

Ah yes, MCPS has an MCPS gang task force for absolutely no reason.
Typo. That's should have read MCPD has...

Every police department has a gang task force. Idiot.

dp... I actually went to a HS out west with crips and bloods. RM does not have real gangs like the ones that went to my HS. I'm sure there may be a handful who are involved in some gangs, but it's not prevalent, and they largely don't want to draw attention of the admins or police to themselves. There's certainly no gang warfare happening there or in the surrounding areas of the school, not like where I grew up.

It did as of a couple years ago. The memorandum of understanding between MCPS and MCPD regarding gangs in MCPS was only signed 5 or 6 years ago. I suppose with the dEfUnD tHe PoLiCe council and BOE members it's possible it was shut down. Though, it's clear that they are needed more than ever.

Not dumb. Progressive. Progressives live in the land of make believe where gangs don't exist, restorative justice actually works, and if we spend even more money on kids who don't care about education they'll want to start learning.

This thread is pathetic. RM is a fantastic school, nor is it that different from Wootton. It's just slightly more economically diverse. Someone brought a gun to WJ recently as well. Are those of you with kids at WJ ready to move as well?

And actually Wootton isnt wealthier than RM, RM just services more low income areas. Non low income areas that RM serves are wealthier than those served by Wootton. Wootton's neighborhoods look like Wheaton or Glen Burnie.

The real wealthy are Whitman and Churchill. Wootton are mostly just middle class.

I view Wootton as a UMC school and RM as MC/slightly LMC school (except IB families)
