Masks optional by spring break

There is a 0% chance mcps kids will be in masks this spring. The ball is already rolling. The state had meetings last week. MoCo county council is aware that this is coming.

Buckle up, covid lovers.

Oh, I hope you are right!! I would be thrilled to hear masks optional but spring. Please, please let that be true. It’s way past time.

Great! Glad you agree. Let’s start there. Masks optional for all kids 6 and under in Montgomery County. That would be a HUGE improvement from what we have now.

Labelling covid exposure to a 100% unvaccinated population, knowing that covid has more negative affects to an unvaccinated populations, is a "HUGE improvement"?

Here we see an example of trying to infect the unvaccinated population to cause as much damage to children as possible.

Nope. Re-read what is written. Masks optional. Any parent who wants their kid in a mask can continue on. The rest of us can choose for ourselves. If your are worried, continue on with your masked ways.

I am pessimistic that it will happen in MoCo. I foresee that every jurisdiction around us will be mask free. We will go mask free 6 months after everyone else.

It’s honestly so sad that masks are the hills parents are willing to die on when their own kids simply don’t care. Grow up. You might learn something from your 5 year old.

My 5 year old doesn't wear his mask properly nor do any of his classmates. The masks aren't doing anything unless they move to kn95s, and those don't fit properly and most won't wear.

It's only a matter of time when the masks come off. I do hope it is this February or March when the cases are low and we meet the state's offramp. People are going to get loud when that happens.

LOL

Says the lady who wants Kindergarteners masked forever.

It’s honestly so sad that the pro-mask all the time, forever parents are willing to die on that hill. Grow up. You might learn something from your 5 year old who has enough sense to know that wearing a mask outside at recess is insanity.

You might be right, unfortunately. Montgomery County runs about 6 months behind other jurisdictions. Whether it was for reopening schools or now, for masks.

Continue and say the whole story. Do be ashamed of what you are!

No masks in schools, no masks anywhere. Masks ware a mistake from the beginning.
You do not call sniffles a pandemic.
Regarding the deaths (much less, of course, than the announced numbers), it affects only people with health problems and older people.
In the long term, the economy will go up without this burden.

Who was wondering about how many kids had lost their parents?

Here you go. Answers.

Please realize that the people pushing hard on this anti mask rhetoric are not Americans. Not the kind of Americans we need in our country.

If our politicians and school officials give into this, I hope that they can be held accountable with personal lawsuits when this backfires.

Jeff is deleting posts he doesn’t agree with. He’s upset black and brown parents are against the parents in the open together group. I’ll say it loudly before it gets deleted: these parents do not speak for us. Jennifer Reesman, you absolutely do not speak for us. Please stop.

The question was how many kids have lost parents as a result of a kid bringing Covid home from school. Do you have that stat?

What? Unvaccinated kids all over the world go to school unmasked every day. The US has been dishonest with parents. This is not the global killer they’ve been making it out to be.

I know two mcps kids who’ve died of overdose this school year. Zero who’ve died of covid.

We should be balancing harms. How well do they work? What is the harm they really reduce? What harm do they cause? It’s time they came off. It really is. The kids have been really great but they’ve paid a high price. Not worth it anymore. Experts slowly coming around.

The good news is that we can answer those questions. Multiple studies have shown that masking in schools reduces transmission of covid-19. The harm they cause is that some kids have a harder time hearing the teacher, and kids with specific special needs may be more impacted.

Given that widespread covid outbreaks lead to school closures, which ALSO disproportionately impact kids with special needs, I'd argue that the risk/benefit analysis is still weighted toward masking in schools.

A lot of the studies have been questioned because communities with mask requirements also tend to have other mitigation measures in place, so it’s difficult to know if masking in schools is the thing that helps as much as we want to think. Also, school closures around the country haven’t been tied to COVID numbers, they have reflected how liberal or conservative your jurisdiction is.
