No.

This is not an ideological battle over the nuances of "mandates," however much you'd like to make that the new right wing talking point of the day.

"It's not about masks! It's about freedom!"

No. It's about masks. It's about the "nuance" of putting the agency and responsibility of keeping their school safe on the backs of the kids within it. The "nuance" of forcing people to go to work in an unsafe environment.

If it were actually about covid numbers going down you would have the "nuance" to understand that 3300 Americans dying daily means we are still in the meaty part of the lagging indicator that is covid deaths. As I type this, and one reason I am so furious about it, my next-door neighbor, who lost her daughter to covid before vaccines were available, is sick with a lung infection. Again. She's 90 and obviously tough as nails, because if this is covid it will be her third diagnosed case.

Her great granddaughter is also sick with it.for the third time. She just turned five.

I suppose you will see this as evidence that "masks don't work." I see it as a human tragedy that you are not willing to inconvenience yourself to prevent.

This post encapsulates everything that is wrong with discourse around COVID in left leaning circles. You really have it all:
- misrepresenting statements by those who disagree with you to make them sound like they are from the other political "team"
- Using anecdotes of deaths from COVID, rather than scientific evidence, to support your point of view
- Insisting those who.oppose mask mandates just don't want to be inconvenienced despite them citing real, tangible downsides to mask use in educational settings
- Generally being a self rigjteous POS

If you were so worried about real, tangible downsides to mask use in educational settings, you would have found some evidence of downsides back in September. You did not.

Instead you're bringing it up now, making the calculation that it's safe enough to do without masks NOW, and the issue is enough of a wedge issue that you can use it.

I get it. You don't like being wrong. I'm sure your wife has to watch herself!

The downsides have existed the entire time. It's just that now that the entire student body is eligible to be vaccinated and the case rates are falling it would make sense to end mask mandates

But are we having a debate about when numbers will have fallen enough that they won't rise again? Are we debating antibody levels and efficacy? Boosters?.

Nope.

I would be happy to debate people on when the case rate/positivity/hospitalization rate is low enough to feel comfortable with relaxing mandates but have yet to see an rational counterargument just a lot of hysteria and name calling.

There is no need to debate it. You can use things like hospitalizations but not every cares so much about hospitalizations as they do spread. Rates are down, but they'd been down before and they were down right before the last big surge.

You are irrational if you think if you aren't willing to at least keep the most basic precaution of masking in schools.

People like you are exactly why we need masking. You wouldn't think twice of sending your sick kid to school.

So basically in your mind we should keep mask at school permanently?

Where did you go to school that you learned absolutely no history? What on this earth has ever been permanent other than your stupidity and blatant disregard for your family and community?

Hey that's your argument not mine. You're the one who cannot give any kind of timeline or criteria for when we could get rid of masks so the logic dictates that you want masks forever

Hon you wouldn’t know logic if it dropped on your head. Timeline???? Oooohhhh what’s the timeline for a famine? An earthquake? A volcano? Yes!!! Those have to have timelines too otherwise they go on forevvvvvver by your stupid thought process. Each must have a soecific timeline. Volcano? You can erupt on Tuesday and will stop on Friday otherwise you go in forevvvvvvvver.

Pretty dumb analogy because volcanoes erupt and then lay dormant and earthquakes do not last that long

Just because the best solution isn't always in use, doesn't mean we have to go to zero. All the in betweens help with risk reduction. The majority of the children at our elementary school are wearing high quality masks

No, because taking away the mask mandate does not prohibit people from wearing masks. Those that are wearing high quality masks properly are not going to stop just because masks are optional. I think you equate mandates with masks and that's a false and harmful assumption.

What it does it allow the selfish and entitled to spread covid even easier. Generally those who aren't willing to mask are the same ones who are not taking basic precautious outside and are the ones bringing it in.

Maybe this will make you feel better; in my case this is not true at all. I have written several times about my support for ending a mask mandate especially for young children and we have been incredibly cautious. No one in my family has eaten in a restaurant since March 2020 and we chose small groups and outdoor activities whenever possible. I don’t feel guilty about the idea of not putting my little kids in masks because they really don’t go very many places besides school, play dates with friends from school and playground/sports outside

I know. You support your twins not having to wear masks with their speech therapists... For the millions of four year olds who aren't your twins... Well who cares?

This thread is really confusing…I just found out I had twins and they are in speech therapy! News to me! And what/who on earth is Rebecca/Rebekah/Becky???

I'm not really sure. I thought Rebekah might be some kind of anti-Semitic slur, so I suggested Rebecca. But maybe she's a real person?

Our little anti-mask troll is getting desperate and flailing.

I’m the one who works at NIH, but I am also apparently a right-wing Cato shill? News to me!

Someone is insisting that anyone who disagrees with her is a Cato/Koch-shill, Hitler, eugenicist, etc. Sad, really.

Are you 15? That's a serious question. Follow-up: have you had a brain tumor?

Your example isn't logic, it's more like a game of Dragonball Z. "Oh, well you don't know when there will be a flood so we should sit in this boat forever!"

I really feel bad that I've been trying to argue with you.

Ah, great! You're here!

I have been really looking forward to all your facts and charts, "person-who-works-at-NiH." The other guy who agrees with you, the one with the reasoning skills of a juvenile manatee, has been begging for us to produce some.

Also, can you cast your entrails or summon Chtulu or whatever it is you people do at NIH to determine when the pandemic will end???? If you do not apparently we will all have to wear masks forever.

Rebecca doesn’t have guest over, it might upset her 90 year old neighbor.

That's nice meanwhile this is just another wingnut fantasy. None of this stuff will ever happen.
