Authorities said the six suspects worked together on more than 70 incidents of robbery, theft and burglary from October 2020 to September 2021. ... More than 100 Asian women throughout Santa Clara County and the Bay Area were targeted in the crimes, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, who added that the prosecution of the case is ongoing. Some of the women were injured during the crimes. “They targeted Asian women, they thought Asian women don’t use banks and they made other ethnic slurs against Asians,” Rosen said at a Wednesday press conference in the Little Saigon neighborhood of San Jose. “I decided to charge this also as a hate crime for a few reasons. Number one, it adds additional time in custody, which is appropriate for a case of this magnitude. Number two, I recognize that a hate crime doesn’t only affect the individuals involved… it also affects the people in the Asian American community who were not targeted in that it makes them fearful that they may be next.” ... Lots of jobs created by the uptick in crime. Private security, glass and door replacement, boarding windows, dumpsters, cleaning crews, electrical repairs, re stocking stores, medical treatment, fast food workers, pawn shops, eBay and Facebook resale vendors. No wonder unemployment is down. |

Thank God. The last time I was in the Tenderloin was 3 years ago and it was astonishingly horrifying even then. I've been to a lot of very rough places (think wartime Baghdad and such) and this was worse. I felt horrible for the moms walking down the sidewalks with kids in hand. This should be completely unacceptable to everyone, to have kids in the US grow up in squalor and trash and danger. |

Tremendous job by DeSantis. Acted swiftly with no nonsense, love that the law also punishes the co-conspirator's like the Fake Realtor's that are used to "sign" the fake leases to create the racket HARD.
Particularly for Florida with so many second homes for part-time residents, such a great common sense law with teeth. Can't wait for more states to follow this to put the pressure on Democrat areas to have to answer the Q of why they are not following suit. |

The answer from progressive lawmakers will be that forcing squatters out of a residence that is not theirs is "discriminatory toward black and brown people." Having a home is a right, dontchaknow. |
