Usually, at Valor tryouts the first team kids are grouped together, second team kids together, and then a field or area for all the rec kids and lower team kids jumbled together. They may move a kid up to a different field but not down during the tryouts. They are rating kids on an app. They barely watch the bad field. |
To be fair this is a common way to run tryouts (usually a show is made of at least pretending to watch the "lowest" field.) |
| Do you need to attend all the tryout dates or is one enough? They are overlapping with other clubs, and we want to go to those tryouts as well. DC is on Valor right now. |
Depends on how good your kid is. If he is on the first team now one tryout is fine. Make sure you email an excuse for the second tryout. |
If your child already plays for Valor I can almost guarantee they already know where they plan to place them for next fall. The coaches have had all year to evaluate current players. Tryouts are a formality for existing players and to help coaches compare any new players to the existing players on various team levels. They aren’t going to move a kid up or down who wasn’t already going to be moved based on whether or not they attended all the tryouts. If you are considering somewhere else, you should go to as many of those tryouts as possible. The other coaches do not know your child and may need to see them over multiple sessions to determine where they might fit in. My child does poorly at the first tryout at a new place (nerves maybe?) but then much better at the second. Their offers from other clubs have always come after the second tryout. |
I wish the clubs didn’t do this. We should not feel guilty trying out at other clubs. |
| You can get an offer and not even attend tryouts. You could register a fake name and you would get an offer. |
| That is true! We registered but my dc never attended tryouts. Later in the summer, we got a Congratulations and welcome to the 4th team email. Lol! |
Haha a team with no coach and a roster full of kids who didnt try out |
They need their meal tickets to support the first teams… If we didn’t attend the first day of try outs, does that mean we are pretty much screwed? |
No. Depends on how good your kid is. Might be a few open spots on the No Coach Hired Second Team. |
| Lost track of this thread but did anyone know what that lowest 2013 team coach did to get fired mid-seaso? My neighbor's kid is on that team and I am nosy frankly. |
Boys side? The girl's second team is the lowest team and they haven't had any coaching changes that we know of. |
| Yeah it was the worst team's boy coach who got fired. |
Offers go out to the players they want before tryouts start and then they fill in with other kids. |
