US has no good options in Ukraine

I sincerely hope this is a sign that he’s picking some scapegoats for his decisions, and is planning to pull his forces back. US officials said Russians are actually open to diplomatic talks with Ukraine now.

Good.

Putin doesn’t scapegoat because he wants to deescalate. He scapegoats to try to justify continuing.

Also, Russia nearly never negotiates in good faith.

I don't know about that. WHy is he not taking Kiev yet? He could, why is he so slow on the ground? He could have bombed Kiev to the ground by now, but he didn't. Seems to me NATO wants a fight.

Yes of course. That makes complete sense. Russia hasn't taken Kyiv yet because NATO wants war. Are you the same derp from the other thread? Russia's been trying to take Kyiv but they've failed. It turns out that their vast amy sucks. No fuel, no food, no maintenance, no air superiority, no morale,

Again...for what? He did that in Syria. Did that work out well for russia?

If we didn't have the 300 "advisors" on the ground, Ukraine would already be in Russian hands. Unlike 2014, this will be a prolong war and will eventually bring NATO into it, ie United States.

We are at war, been since after WWII. Would be nice not to be drawn in militarily in this particular battle.

And yet, he has bombs that can destroy it which would guarantee he takes it. He has not destroyed it? Why?

We are not at war, we have never been at war with Russia, ever.

Per military experts, Russia will bomb it very heavily when the ground forces have advanced close enough. It will be heavy bombing, then artillery and then tanks pushing in. Goal is for Ukrainians to hide during bombing and emerge in small groups to take out tanks.

Russians have not advanced at the speed that military models predicted because they were utterly unprepared for the current resistance. They have had to change plans and word is many battalions are improvising because their communications have been cut off.

Is it? Seems to me you crave and want war. God spare me from warmongers like you. The Cold War was American doing, every person in history academic knows this but keep telling yourself how the U.S. brings democracy and peace to the world.

You're paranoid.

Ok, maybe I am. But, can you convince me that the US isn’t going to be drawn into this war. It seems increasingly likely that Russia will invade a nato member. And the narrative from the political talking heads is changing.

No. We cannot. If Russia attacks a NATO member then we are at war because he will have attacked us. The choice is surrender or defend. Take your pick but be honest with yourself about it.

And if this happens - that Putin attacks a European NATO member - please remember that it will be only the second time in the history of the NATO alliance that Article 5 (invoking mutual defense) will be used. You know what the first time Article 5 was invoked? On 9/11! On 9/11 our NATO allies invoked article 5 in order to help defend the US.

That’s why it was SO shameful that Donald Trump denigrated NATO and ultimately sought to withdraw us (according to John Bolton) in his (never to happen 🤞) 2nd term.

FYI, the narrative from the talking heads is changing because it is becoming increasingly apparent that Putin has no interest in ending this war because Putin himself cannot remain as leader of Russia if he withdraws. He will be seen as defeated and will lose his grip on power and likely be executed or imprisoned. It is also becoming increasingly clear that every last Ukrainian can and will fight Russia for as long as it takes to eject Russia from Ukraine, even if Russia were to physically take Ukraine, the war would continue as an unending insurgency. The only thing Putin can do to strengthen his hand is provoke NATO into the fight, which would in turn strengthen Putin and rally most Russian citizens and politicians to his side in the name of saving Russia.

NATO is a defense alliance, not an attack dog like Russia.
