Agree -- more affordable housing. |
Fearmongering? It does sound like a huge safety hazard to have something of this size come in without any way to contain the traffic and safety implications it will bring to this part of DC. Your materials are severely outdated, aren't they? Where is the 661 page CTR they submitted with figures from early 2013? 2014? That is scary! The health clinic is over 14,000 square feet - no where near the same one on their current campus. Please refresh your materials or just remove the smoke. |
| NPS has a huge parking lot and traffic snakes through. Traffic spilling onto Nebraska will be a big bummer. |

"on October 14, 2021, ANC 3E voted 4-1 to OPPOSE the River School Plan to relocate, rezone, and redevelop the property at 4220 Nebraska NW".
they may still prevail at the Board of Zoning Approval (BZA). They have scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, October 27 at 9:30AM via WebEX (see DCOZ.DC.GOV). |
| The NPS carpool line has been crazy lately bc of how much the traffic backs up around the school. NPs has the huge parking lot so the achool traffic sits in that (so better for the neighborhood) but i can’t imagine adding more cars to the road at 3 pm bc it already feels so congested!!! |
NPS carline is contained because it loops within the school. Also, their afternoon carline is two lanes. No issues at all. |
Oddly no one previously objected to the line of parked cars along both sides of Nebraska outside of rush hour. It's a single traffic lane from AU law school to 42nd street until 4pm (or later if people don't move cars). |
You are correct - my kids have been attending NPS for 6+ years and I can’t figure out why the traffic seems so much worse this year. Again, I sit in the parking lot for carpool but the traffic on Van Ness and Nebraska seems so much worse? |
More people driving instead of using metro. More people not using Wisconsin due to construction. More people driving to GDS and then through the neighborhood. |
First off, perceptions of traffic have to relate back to 2019, the last time things were "normal" - kind of hard to remember that far back! Second, in addition to other traffic, there are probably fewer people using early drop off/late pickup because more people are working from home, so they can drop/pick kids at normal times rather than on way back from downtown. |
No one objected because the sign says they can do it. Take it up with DC government. |
| Any updates from last night’s meeting? |
You've entirely missed the point - no one was concerned about the parked cars creating traffic problems enough to take it up with the DC government. Why would removing that parking and having cars waiting in line there cause greater traffic issues? In either case the road is one lane wide. |
| It wouldn't. You are undermining the NIMBY argument. |
It's cute how you think that if you say NIMBY enough times you'll somehow persuade people that River's applications for zoning exceptions should be granted. |
