I can't breathe . . . Minneapolis police kill a man in broad daylight

The officer is not guilty for restraining the man. It was the WAY he restrained that man that was improper and, yes, the officer is liable for that. Unfortunately, the person who is now dead is a man who made a bad choice by resisting the officer in the first place. The man is the one who instigated the physical altercation in the first place. I know that you do not want to hear it but that is what happened. Should he have had his neck kneeled on? No way. Was that officer on some type of power kick? Absolutely. Did the officer use a proper restraint on the guy? No.

Who is now dead? The man who physically resisted the officers. Had he made a different choice, he likely would not be dead. You don't want to hear that but that is the truth. All the protests over his death is not going to bring him back.

Hold the bad officers accountable for their crimes - absolutely.

The very definition of victim blame. The reason nothing changes is because this narrative (which likely isn't even true in this case) always wins in the long run.

-- Not black, but a rape survivor who, yes, drank too much that night...

+1 Exactly

A woman has absolutely no obligation to comply with a rapist so do not even go there.

The man in this video did have the obligation to comply with what the officers were telling him to do and he was aware that when he did not comply that the officers would physically MAKE him comply.

Doesn’t matter. Not complying isn’t a death sentence.

DP here:

I see no issues of non-compliance presented in any of the videos thus far. You’re arguing a strawman that doesn’t exist. Stop muddying the waters.

And yes, the criminal cops (and others) must be held accountable!!

That isn't going to happen on this site. There are very few people on here with actual LE experience, and they get drowned out by hateful people making long winded ignorant statements. Or they just accuse you of being a racist or whatever.

First change I would make is requiring police to live in the city that they serve.

Don’t want to do that? Go find another job.

I like that.

I’d add extensive training in community building and de-escalation techniques. Their job is to protect and serve - to keep the peace. No terrorize millions of people.

Fire Mayor Jacob Fray?

We will see what happens over the next few critical days. Mixed bag so far. I’m willing to give him another day or so to come up with something.

Was he behind the tear gas order?

Police chief is obviously on thin ice also.

Exactly what would you come up with? Be honest here.

Even if he didn’t comply being restrained is not a death sentence.

The cops are 100% to blame for their actions. One officer used lethal force. The others did nothing to stop.

Lock them up and fry them.

Brilliant.

I’m a new mpls resident (moves from DC recently) but think the mayor is doing a decent job. Police commissioner seems to be only paying lip service. The whole force needs overhaul and de escalation training. And the four officers should be arrested and charged.

Don’t you know the mayor is responsible for his police department?

To the best of their abilities, the police chief, mayor, and district attorney should:
Charge and hold all of the officers involved ASAP - tomorrow AM
Break up the police union (or force out the current bigot in charge)
Stop teargassing people
Hold a candlelight vigil
Hold townhall meetings to let people express themselves
Support programs to rebuild community and trust
Push tons of de-escalation training and ongoing programs
Push tons of racial awareness training and ongoing programs

I’m sure there are better ideas out there. These are just what came to mind right now.

Just hire only brown leaders who can’t be racists.
Problem solved?

Nope, but your statement is.

If anyone wants to see where the man physically resisted the officers see the link above - after "Nope, but your statement is."

This is where the encounter turned physical and this is why the officers restrained Floyd.

Are you an idiot?

He wasn’t choked out in this incident. They put him in cuffs, sit him on the sidewalk for a while, and place him in squad car across the street.

Why did the white officer pull him out of the car and murder him in front of the crowd?

Here’s the proof....he’s placed in a squad car at the end.

https://www.tmz.com/2020/05/27/surveillance-footage-before-george-floyd-killed-minneapolis-not-resisting/

Also, if you watch the TMZ video it appears he is in a lot of pain and perhaps having a medical issue. Lots of grimacing and then he falls off the curb when they try to get him in the squad car. He seems to have some sort of physical ailment.

The cops were so very wrong here.

I can not get that TMZ video to play for some reason. All of the many chopped videos showing different parts of the incident are confusing. If someone has seen where they've all been put together in some sort of cohesive way where I can actually follow along with what happened when that would be helpful.

Obvously, if they pulled a handcuffed man out of the back of a police cruiser, slammed him on the ground and proceeded to choke the life out of him that would be murder.

Funny. I thought this poster above meant the police were using more violence with the tear gas etc.

I saw that the governor chimed in on Twitter. He should make an appearance ASAP too.
