This is very reasonable and it makes me wish my kids were in a private. My kids' DCPS principal is barely acknowledging the virus. |
Are you showing any symptoms in particular a fever? If not, there is no real point in testing. |
The problem is they’re relying on the honor system. Our kid’s private has been requesting self-quarantine since late Feb., but not sure all are complying with it. |
My child?s private stated a week ago, that if any child, teacher or family member of either be diagnosed with COVID19, the school would close immediately. They?ve already had meetings about and put in place options for online schooling in this event.

The test here in the US is RT-PCR. It is very sensitive to any corona virus material. The person does not need to be symptomatic. |
The test is notoriously unreliable. This person will be tested at least two more times. |
The federal government's incompetence in getting working test kits out in a timely manner has made it very difficult for local governments to stay on top of COVID-19. Thankfully private companies have started testing. I'm not sure why the fed gov didn't authorize them to do so sooner. |
That's like locking the doors AFTER the burglar is in your home. |
Are the parishioners being advised not to go to work & school or only if they have symptoms? |
Normally this is called qPCR. And yes. |
Not unreliable - it?s just that people seroconvert. Patients in China have tested positive only after a few weeks of incubation after exposure. This is why the US should be running 1M tests / day. |
This. This is what I need to know. I'm trying to decide whether to tell an employee to stay home because her child attends a school with a staff member who has so far tested negative but came into close contact with someone who tested positive. The school is closed but students/staff are not being told to quarantine... |
Cathedral Schools said this basically: "We remain in close touch with infectious disease experts, whose recommendations we are following. Based on their recommendations, we ask that children who exhibit any symptoms of any illness stay at home. In addition, we ask that any adult or child who has had close contact within the past 14 days with someone who has contracted coronavirus disease seek medical advice before returning to school." |
Does anyone else find the DC response completely lacking? There is no game plan, no coordination, no messaging, like wtf are we doing? what are we supposed to be doing?
We don't have to panic, but I also don't think we should be allowed to carry on like nothing is going on. But I think that IS the plan- carry on like nothing is going on and hope it goes away until there are more positives, more deaths, and we hit a crisis. |
This. The silence is deafening. Wtf? Bowser needs to step up. |
