BRYC Girls TD Larry Best leaving for Washington Spirit

Nothing has been officially decided, that’s why nothing has been announced. USSF will not like an NWSL club completely dropping DA. Very bad optics. Of the two, VA is more vulnerable simply because there are other nearby options. Not so with MD. That said, I believe there is a chance both may remain as is.

To continue with the rumors, I have heard from several Rush parents that Rush has applied for, and expects to join, DA. If, in fact, they join DA, then I wonder if they are in addition to Spirit MD, or a replacement for Spirit MD. Maryland currently only has 2 ECNL teams and 1 DA team, so I always though Rush would become the second DA team in Maryland, which arguably could support another team.

Decesions are made months before announcements. So not necessarily true as to timing.

So it's in your best interest to find a backup plan now, right? so just go ahead and do it. It's not in Spirit's best interest to announce in January that everything is going to be discontinued (in reality it's an unknown), or people will start jumping ship right now, and players won't be motivated for the next 5 months. Good luck coaching a team that is going to be disbanded after the season, nobody wants to be in that position. So why would Spirit say anything about it before the season? My point is if you think it's in your best interest to find a backup plan, then go do it.

Not so easy to do when DA rules require informing the home club before attending another DA ID session.

That’s why you develop a backup plan that does not involve going to ID sessions.

Adults who have the fate of 200 girls in their hands should exercise good judgement and implement common sense measures. This isn't rocket science.

In my opinion, the silence is deafening. They know what information and rumors are being circulated. They have chosen to not address it for a reason.

Just my opinion.

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t believe a decision hasn’t yet been made-the decision on the timing of the announcement perhaps has not, but I’m sure the decision to dissolve has. Shame on them for not telling players so they can begin the transition process!

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Question:

If my kid leaves her DA team at the end of the spring season and is picked up by a ECNL team as soon as the season is over, can she go to the ECNL summer showcase with her ECNL team?

Typically no. ECNL has a roster freeze May 1 after which players cannot be added. Even if you could add a player, most teams carry full rosters so there would not be space without displacing another player.

Yes, I know players who did that last year and went to I think it was Seattle.

Just curious - has FCV made any internal announcement to its families regarding both their owner and boys director joining the Spirit staff?

There’s nothing on their website or social about it. If you’re an FCV parent - please share.

FCV parents knew before anyone else.

And what exactly have FCV parents been told? Any truth to rumors of an association or merger of clubs?
