I believe this is why there are various supports for charters. I know mainly of Charter Board Partners and Building Hope. There are likely others. So that it isn't "amateur" for newcomers. I would hope that approving a school's charter means ensuring that everything is in place correctly. |
Makes sense. DCPS doesn’t do its own real estate or board... so it can focus its expertise on education. |
LOL |

What a monster! The school officials were so negligent!
Poor kids. Parents, talk to your kids at home. The boy was sexual abused DAILY! |
| Has anyone checked to see if the plaintiffs actually live in DC? A few years ago, a DC charter school got sued by a student's family. The stupid parents brought the suit in PG County court, because that's where they lived. They were committing residency fraud and outed themselves when they sued the DC school. |
| What’s your point? If they live in MD their kids deserve to be sexually abused? By the way, it is a well-known fact that LAMB has students who do not live in DC because until very recently, they allowed the children of staff who live outside of DC to attend LAMB. LAMB has been arrogant for a long time and thought nothing of using DC taxpayers money for out of state students, even though they had a waiting list filled with DC kids that was a mile long. It was unacceptable and they finally Were forced to stop. Of course, the DCPCSB is completely useless in terms of any oversight on too many issues to count! |
| We have a very strong charter board and they do shut down schools. Please don't exaggerate. |
It’s well known that the the PCSB is going to give a pass to schools they like — either allowing allow those schools to quietly fix issues or just overlooking those issues. Or the PCSB alters the policies to accommodate those schools. Other schools that aren’t in favor get the PCSB’s full scrutiny and all the sanctions. Sad but true. Schools with significant financial issues, funds commingled with other organizations, failing to meet accreditation requirements, and the list goes on. |
Are you joking? The charter board is totally useless and just a rubber stamp. They DO NOT care about parents whatsoever. Seriously. Call them! |
Oh be fair! They are a rubber stamp for their chosen schools. And quite useful in pushing those schools forward. |
You're right. They're a rubber stamp for their favorites. Has anyone ever asked them for anything? I have. It's embarrassing how little they care. If there is a waitlist - then it's okay!!! |
NP. I've discussed concerned with them about a school's renewal/expansion application and was heard, and brought up with the school. This was a Tier 1 school with a long wait list, and they did care. I think it does depends on what you are asking them for and whether it's within their purview (which is pretty narrowly defined by the laws governing charters in DC) or a matter that falls within the purview of the individual school's board. |
| its awful this guy only got 8 years. Nasser just got life. |
| And he will probably serve less than 8 years and go back to his country (Spain) after that, where I assume he will be a free man. |
They are both awful people and deserve all the scorn heaped upon then. But Nasser abused 150+ girls and women over 20 year period. Fernandez abused ~20 children over a 3 year period. Proportionally the punishments are about the same. |
