He pled guilty to abusing 6 students.

But at least 15 more students alleged to police that he abused them.

When the case was ruled upon had the full breadth of Fernandez's bad deeds been exposed? Can he be tried for additional instances of sexual abuse of children if new children come forward? Eight years does not seem sufficient for forever alternating the lives of so many.

No. His plea agreement precludes any additional LAMB-related cases from being brought.

He had good attorneys.

The case was brought in DC as that is where the crimes occurred. The plea agreement was negotiated by the US attorney for the district and approved by the judge.

Also as bad as his crimes were, he never sexually penetrated the children -- seems to have stopped at touching (which is bad enough). But the penalties available in that case, even when there are numerous victims and episodes, are less severe.

How does Diane Cottman show up to work each day?

They have 3 now (MO Ave, SD and Walter Reed) and would have to go back to the PCSB to increase their enrollment ceiling any further.

The school said (post ousting Encinas and Cottman) that they expect the planned acquisition of the Kingsbury Building and consolidation to one campus will proceed. I think time will tell.

This truly is a cautionary tale for school administrators and school boards. Every school district in America should read this 41 page document and have it serve as the focal point of a continuing professional education effort. So many balls dropped. If you want to be the boss, you have to be willing to do what's right.

I"m not an attorney, but I bet a judge in TX, GA, or FL would have given more than 6 years, penetration or not!!

Those two administrators should lose their houses and assets. OMG! Their negligence is outrageous. These kids are messed up forever.

There's no reason for any teacher or staff member in any type of school to take kids to a basement and lock the door. Just think of the PTSD impact on those kids. 8 years? Unreal.
