Boy Killed on Kansas Water Slide

Aren't there two tarps on the bottom of the slide? One for the head, and another for the body?

To me, that second tarp everyone keeps talking about doesn't appear to be covering anything. It just looks like a wadded up tarp/pack to me.

This has NOT actually been confirmed. All of the reports are just saying that witnesses are saying this. Some of the more reliable sources say it was an internal decapitation. Although the fact that they haven't denied it makes me think he was decapitated. I would think they would shut that rumor down pretty quickly if it was not true.

I understand that, but if it were internal, why would there be such a gigantic pool of blood in the water?

It can also be partial, Ie, the spinal cord is severed but the entire neck isn't cut through. Would cause huge amounts of blood without the head being separated.

The brother watching from below knew immediately that the boy was dead, so that's pretty indicative. . .

I mean, I really don't know. Either option is terrible. It's just that the reports only say decapitation, not which kind, so seeing a tarp on the ground and assuming it's covering his head seems a bit of a leap. Again, how would the head have gotten over there? There's netting around the slide and his body hit that and then slid down. Don't see why the head would not have as well. Eyewitness reports are conflicting because that's how eyewitness reports are. We just don't know and I suppose it doesn't actually matter.

I guess you are right. I was thinking that an external decapitation would have been more painful and awful for Caleb, but I don't know if that's actually true, and unfortunately he is gone either way. It doesn't really matter. It is just terrible regardless.

The guy who designed it is a high school dropout. He dropped out of school at age 24 and he's the 'inventor', the 'creative mind'.
Great idea.

So what. He is an engineer. Other pretty impressive people never finished high school or college. What a dumb thing to point out.

There is another picture where there are two tarps spread out, in the water at the bottom of the slide. Not the one wadded up outside of the slide - two in the water.

There are witnesses reporting that the boy's neck was "clearly broken" at the bottom and that there was a lot of blood. That sounds like a partial decapitation.

His head came off.

Every news source out there has confirmed this. What are you reading?

It has been confirmed he was decapitated. Whether that was internal or external has NOT been confirmed.

Why would they confirm this? Why is this info needed to the told to the public.

I'm sure it was, though honestly the other day I saw a news story about a little boy who'd been internally decapitated but recovered:

None of them are engineers.

Yeah. I mean, I love Julie Andrews as much as anyone, but I wouldn't ride a water slide she designed either.
