Omg, his brother saw it happen.

He was 10, min age is 14...seems like he had no business being on it.

Where are you seeing the age restriction?
http://www.schlitterbahn.com/kansas-city/rides/all-new-verruckt

Please arrive with everyone in your group of 2-3 riders. The entire group together must meet the weight and height requirements (every rider must be at least 54 inches tall and your group must weigh between 400-550 pounds – no single rider over 300 pounds) in order to make reservations.

Your group will be assigned a time, and the complete group must report back to the Verrückt tower 30 minutes prior to ride time for briefing.

Ride Requirements:

2-3 riders per raft with a combined weight between 400 and 550 pounds. Riders will have to be at least 54" tall.

Rides aren't designed with age requirements. They are designed with height/weight requirements.

The two other people he was riding with would have to be pretty large adults to get the combined weight over 400lbs-

I'm also giving the side eye at a highly regulated business having a "free admission and free found day for lawmakers".

But was it from a malfunction in the ride?

Or someone using the ride incorrectly?

In fairness, we don't know if this was a ride malfunction or some kind of human error (the attendent guessed the weights incorrectly, the rider tried to slip a restraint, etc).

I feel stupid trying to hold her back and completely understand that the risk of something happening like this is minuscule compared to a car accident, etc. But, ugh, these rides are just crazy.

These need to be banned. Enough is enough!

Oh grow up! You can't ban every single thing that could be or is dangerous! If that were the case, all cars should be banned as you are far more likely to get into a car accident than you are to get hurt on one of these rides.

10 year old around 75 pounds, man at 180 and woman at 145. We're not all dainty and petite, but I wouldn't call that "pretty large." It's not that hard to get to 400 pounds.

Wow! This is a tall slide!

WTF, its higher than the statue of liberty and niagara falls! OMG

The age requirement was dropped at the start of this season.

The brother was watching from the ground and said to a worker, "My brother just died on one of your attractions." Then went to find his mother. So it must have been pretty horrific if the kid knew immediately that his brother was dead.

Also read that people had been complaining all summer that the Velcro straps on the ride were malfunctioning, probably due to wear and tear.

Oh my God!

How horrible for that family!

My seven year old has been obsessed with this slide ever since seeing a documentary about how it was made. So sad for the family.
