The lower the amount, the less the police expect to receive information. This was a formality step, a check the box move, rather than an actual reward.

They know who has her - they’re playing the game according to the ransom I would bet.

If they wanted to kidnap someone to extort $ from Guthrie- an 84 year old certainly wasn’t the best choice IMO. Nearly all are relatively fragile and/or on serious meds (in other words, they might die before you can recoup your investment). Anyone who did research could’ve figured out she had a pacemaker/ heart issues (if anything via a routine in and out break in, when she was out of the house)

The kids would probably be difficult to kidnap (security) but why not the sister, Annie, instead? Old enough that sh isn’t really a physical threat but probably not going to die on you. And almost certainly wouldn’t have security. I’m sure she’d pay a ransom for her sister too.

The whole thing just makes no sense to me.

She would be a threat, and she's married, so it's easier to abduct an elderly, single person.

The TMZ story is crazy. But also why are they giving away all the details of the so called ransom note instead of turning it over and letting the FBI deal with it? Seems really against protocol to share the contents of a ransom note of an active case with the mass public when someone's life could be on the line.

they didn't give out details other than there were specific things the letter claims to know and they turned it over to the authorities.

Bitcoin is definitely used for terrorism financing and by drug cartels. This is heartbreaking. I hope they get info soon. I am wondering what game they are playing with the small reward for information. I would think they would offer far more, but it depends on what they are dealing with. If this is a drug cartel involved they will murder whoever gives info in most gruesome way possible.
