No one cares that Gus runs StBW (his private training company) - it’s the way he uses it to manipulate parents and players into getting more playing time by paying him on the side. GFR wanted to manage it so they could ensure it was accessible to any player who wanted the training and not just a select few. And any “cut” they took was for field permits which are not free. He was using space that other coaches wanted for practice and he’d get into arguments with some of them because he wanted to use space that was scheduled for team practice to run training sessions he was collecting money for! All of the coaches followed the same rule. And it was in our contracts all along not to do private training with our own players unless it was offered to the whole team. FA has always done extra training without charging for it but Gus was unethical about it and it caused major drama on all of his teams.

I was on one of GDs team and every single player who asked to train with him was offered a spot to train. Plenty of girls who got very little playing time also trained with him. You can't claim he just wants to make money and then think he's turning down money to train girls. Also, all of the training we went to happened before GFR practice times and before GFR had permits for the field.

You’re assuming people posting here are interested in what really happens or in being consistent in their complaints. They just like to complain.

Wow, that's wild. So your GFR team would show up for its scheduled practice and he would be out there free lancing and refuse to get his butt off the field?

Field permits for turf usually start at 8 a.m.
He was holding pay to play training sessions at 7 am?

If he's such a good coach, his players shouldn't need extra training on the side. He should be coaching them at practices. Why wasn't he training the players at the scheduled team practices?

You actually aren't allowed to hold paid trainings for a large group without a field permit. Its in the county field use rules.

Correct. He would say he was only using a 1/4 of the field. Not my team, btw - but others and I certainly witnessed it and many heated conversations at coaches meetings and with RS.

Why do you think he wasn’t coaching at practices? Club practices and extra training are not mutually exclusive. Nearly all players on top teams do private training in addition to club training. The kids with strong technical skills did not learn those skills at club practices.

Sounds like the guy has some big b@||$ to be able to push other coaches around like that. Must also be a pretty good coach for the club to tolerate it for so long. Glad he’s coming to Rev!

lol okay buddy, have fun with a big bully to both kids and other coaches. he is the opposite of a team player, most referred to his teams as "club gus" and he got along with no one. the club didn't tolerate him, just rs did for some reason but now rs is gone and things are finally improving.

Agreed but the problem is GD was adamant that the private training be with HIM and HIM only. He would trash all other trainers and coaches. That is not healthy or helpful for players at all.

The Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) schedules and handles the permitting for the use of fields at Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) facilities for leagues, organizations and groups of individuals during times designated for community use:

Monday through Friday, 5 PM to dark (11 p.m. on lighted fields)
Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM to dark (11 p.m. on lighted fields)
*Some lighted fields may have earlier lights out times. Please contact our office for details and for instructions on operating lights

Never. He would train when it didn't conflict with team practices. These statements are so inaccurate and illogical. None of this adds up to anything credible.

It’s amazing how many victims there are here. I fear for our country’s future.

The facts don’t lie. GFR didn’t have any right to claim fields before 5pm Mon-Fri.

Oh great, now the GFR parents have infiltrated the VRSC thread. Thanks, GD
