MCPS just announced that the childcare cancellation was a mistake and it should have been a delay. Turns out the people convinced this decision made sense were as dumb as they seemed all day!

Thanks for the word salad, Taylor. Your recent message doesn’t address what will happen moving forward. Will code yellow really mean that before care can open on time or at all? Or will MCPS continue to MCPS and miscommunicate?

"Today’s delay also meant that we canceled morning childcare for some families, where before school care is provided at some of our schools by community partners. And by the way this is not the first time they did this, I distinctly remember them not allowing beforecare to happen at least once last year during a 2 hour delay so their claim that this was an "error" and not just a terrible, psychotic choice on their part rings kind of false

Absolutely a disingenuous apology. All of the major before care providers called in to check to see if they could open. Had it been a mistake, you think they would have realized the error after the second call from Bar-T, KAH, etc, and would have made a correction, rather than leaving parents stuck until 11 am.

The email doesn't say they intended to allow child care providers to operate- it just says it was an error to close them.

The CO and BoE have been attempting to justify the decision all day, so they can't claim it was a misunderstanding.
