Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift engaged!

I’m hoping this engagement/wedding shows young women that it’s good to be married. I expect the marriage rate worldwide to skyrocket.

Shove it haters. They don’t even care that you stereotype them.

Can you explain what this means?
It means they are in on the joke. They’re very emotionally intelligent people.

I guess the English Teacher/gym teacher thing (she's just making a joke about how she's kind of bookish nerd and he's a jock, it's not that deep) but I don't get your comment. What joke are they in on? They strike me as medium emotionally intelligent -- obviously not totally obtuse but also, like a lot of celebrities, probably a bit oblivious and self-centered. Even posting this announcement in this way speaks to being mildly tone deaf. That's like 40k in flowers for a photo.

She is not actually bookish in any way, just tries to posture as a tumblr girl with a big book collection (books which never get cracked). And Travis basically flunked out of a degree mill he’s so damn dumb.

University of Cincinnati is not a degree mill and he graduated.

He was given an honorary degree, then proceeded to binge drink beers and slam a beer while walking across the stage. Real Mensa candidate.

Nope. He earned a degree. You might not like that, but he did in fact graduate and it wasn't an honorary degree. She has an honorary degree, but his was earned.

As much as football players actually earn their degree!

Either way, it’s not an honorary degree. He received his diploma late because he never went to the graduation (this was on the Amazon documentary about Jason) and they did a bit on the podcast.

Do you think she will exploit her children at age 12 the way her parents exploited her? Will they become fodder for her songs? Hopefully, she will be more favorable to them.
Or will she go the other way and refuse to release pics citing “privacy.” It will be interesting.

No way.

She’s getting married because she wants to have babies. She will probably have two. Maybe more, but no way she gets divorced before she has her two kids. They might get divorced at some point but I would bet my house their marriage lasts at least 5 years. Probably closer to 10 — that seems to be the celebrity cycle.

+1, I have said this since they went public with their relationship. They will marry, have 1-2 kids and in 5-7 years release the “we have decide to separate but remain good friend and co-parents” statement.

Now celeb snark: their announcement is cheesy AF and honestly gives me secondhand embarrassment. It somehow feels like both a knockoff of the way Hailey Steinfeld and Josh Allen announced their engagement last year, but more cringey and embarrassing and like it was photographed at the mall. You are mega-rich celebrities! Can you not do better than this??

Also the cheesiness and style of the engagement announcement indicates that they are planning on being somewhat public about the wedding and associated events, and that's going to bring the hate on. This feels like it's headed in the direction of a Bezos/Sanchez style event that is just an endless parade of conspicuous consumption. I would have respected them so much more if they'd skipped the public engagement and gotten married quietly at one of their numerous existing mansions with family and close friends in attendance. Instead it looks like we are probably lining up for a long series of wedding-related events with pap walks and tons of gossip over the guest lists and lots of needlessly wasteful flights on private jets all over the world and some over-the-top magazine spread breathlessly detailing every feature of their billion dollar wedding with 14 costume changes and every guest taking home Super Bowl tickets and a diamond necklace.

I hope I'm wrong but this feels over the top in an obnoxious way, sorry.

They got engaged in the backyard of his house in the Kansas City suburbs. That does not seem very Bezos/Sanchez to me. I think this will be a good balance of keeping things quaint and somewhat private, but also involving their fans.

I live about 20 miles from where they got engaged. His house is in Kansas City’s equivalent to Bethesda. Ed said Lee’s Summit, but pretty sure he meant Leawood. Same either way.

After all the scrutiny she has been through, I could see her going the way of “privacy” until they are old enough to make the decision for themselves.

Her parents did not exploit her. They kept her grounded. What would you do if your teenager was obviously an extremely talented songwriter/singer? Not let them pursue it? Holding them back could be detrimental to their happiness and mental health.

Nah. They’re gonna go Brad and Angelina style with Shiloh in promoting the baby. Magazine covers. Video shorts. Merch galore.

Margaret Qualley will attend the wedding through Jack but she doesn’t have a close relationship with Taylor herself.

More likely they got engaged weeks ago and then met with their PR team to discuss how best to capitalize on it and then planned Taylor's appearance on the Kelce's podcast to build up to this announcement, which will then boost interest in Travis's first game of the season (additional viewers tuning in just to see Taylor, catch a glimpse of the ring, check out dynamics in the box now that Taylor is a fiancé instead of a girlfriend) which will then ramp up interest in Taylor's album release in October. It's all too perfect not to have been planned.

To be clear, I don't think their relationship is fake -- I think they really care about each other and are getting married because they want to. I just also think they are extremely aware of the way their relationship benefits their careers and makes them money, and are happy to exploit it to further those shared goals.

I think you are wrong. If the limited info we have so far is correct, he proposed after the podcast. Waiting 2 weeks seems like a pretty standard amount of time for something like this - enough time to celebrate in private, but making the announcement before it leaks. Until she was on the podcast, they had all but disappeared from public eye for several months. No matter when they got engaged, people would have thought it was for PR. If this had happened during the months we hardly saw them, people would have said they only did it because they weren’t getting enough attention lately.

I can see why it seems suspicious leading right into the album release and football season, but it also makes sense that they would want it to happen before all of that is in full swing. And that they spent their slower months growing their relationship and discussing marriage.

Its so annoying that people use marriage as some great novelty. Most marriages aren’t happy and people continue to do it.
Just look at this thread, I would think that most of the haters on this thread aren’t happy at home because marriage as completely destroyed their spirit of being happy for another couple because misery loves company.

I bet they’ve been engaged for a while now and have already planned the wedding. I predict they will be married quickly. They held off on announcing the engagement to throw off media on the actual wedding date. Nobody will expect them to tie the knot soon, but that’s precisely what they’ll do.

You don’t delay having kids any longer when you are as old as they are.

If there’s a week to squeeze it in, they will.

At the latest, this happens immediately after the Super Bowl.

So you’re a psycho fan with no connection to Washington DC and this mommy message board? Presumably googling places to post in. This is not normal behavior.

Two years of dating at their age is embarrassing.

So what are the odds that Kelce played the "you wouldn't make me sign a prenup if you really loved me?"
