Exactly. It seems there are some parents here who are unable to understand percentages. |
You understand that this means 60% of students DO USE RANKINGS?? Right? This is basic math. ![]() |
Such as yourself. This thread is about *individual* *USNWR* ranks. 10% use *individual* ranks. 16% use *US News* |

Sure people look at rankings, but when they see UC-Merced as a top 60 school, those with any analytical skills realize that the rankings are based on skewed measures. For now greatly skewed by DEI, which is dying as quickly as it arose. |
I think the issue with UC Merced is more about people desperate for prestige who misunderstand what a public university is for. UC Merced is public institution for the state of California and is producing great benefits for the state. If you’re a kid from Fresno and want to be a doctor, teacher or nurse it’s amazing. If you are a prestige-addled DMV parent who thinks any UC is more prestigious than VT or UMDBC then you’re just missing the full picture. |
DCUM should create its own ranking. It would be very popular with the crowd here and also the cause of many strokes. |

I just did a deep dive on UC Merced and it looks pretty amazing. not sure that any other state has created an R2 university anew recently? if you have a kid who wanted to relocate to California and was really into the outdoors and environmental science, it looks really cool. so close to Yosemite! |
look you can become a student park ranger! https://ylp.ucmerced.edu/node/161 |

If the premise of the original question weren’t “what happened” to the schools, implying a diminution of quality of education, I might agree with you. But I think that’s an unfair characterization when people are fairly pointing out that the quality is equal to other schools that are ranked higher based on some pretty irrelevant criteria. |
Are you okay? You do realize UC Merced has a yield rate of 9%. N...I...N...E percent. No one thinks it is amazing. |
And less than half of UC Merced students even graduate. It's inclusion as a top 50 university is absurd. Unless your focus is social mobility, the US News rankings are useless presently. |
