What happened to W&M, Brandeis, Tulane, Pepperdine and others..from historically T50 to outside looking in?

A methodology change that eliminate some of the variables that benefited these schools caused the change in rankings. Eliminating variable like small class sizes and high % of faculty with terminal degree has really affected these schools. Tulane going from historically top 40/50 to 73 in one year means absolutely nothing other than a change in methodology.

These are all good schools, if you can afford them.

+2 This is the answer.

You could say the same thing about the UVA boosters constantly talking about how it's so much better, how W&M is a safety for UVA, Ivy level, yada yada - if it's clearly better you wouldn't need to rub it in everyone's faces 24/7 esp when the stats don't agree with that. Why does every thread that so much as mentions W&M draw a hoard of haters that make their entire DCUM brand attacking it?

If UVA was that much better they would have 100% submitting test scores and a 1570 median like the ivies but they don't and in fact have the exact same test stats as W&M.

+2. WM is just as good as UVA and we just need to spread the facts to as many people as we can.

My goodness... the insecurity of the UVA and W&M boosters is palpable. No one cares.

Observing what's going on here and how insecure some of you are is hardly trolling. Just look at the above bolded exchange. Wow.

And you personally know the people making those posts? Perhaps you do.

DP. Thank goodness I don’t know anyone insecure enough to say “X school is as good as Y school and we must ‘spread the facts’!!” How idiotic.

I’m spread the facts poster and I don’t apologize for letting people know how good WM is. Merry Christmas everyone and tonight I’ll be at Busch Gardens Christmas Town! UVA folks will be wherever.

Not really making the case for W&M, but ok!

The school cannot look bad. It has essentially the same student profile as Georgetown as I was telling people at our neighborhood party last night.

You could try a little harder next time to make it less obvious

Son at Pepperdine. Had a really good experience. I dont think the fact that the university was t50 and now no longer t50 due to rankings methodology changed anything….same teachers, same curriculum, same tiny classes, professors still know you by name and they get together in their homes. It has been a wonderful experience for my son. He already has a great Investment job lined up for June 2024.

Not a single one of these is a liberal arts college…

Pepperdine is “is composed of an undergraduate liberal arts school (Seaver College)…” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepperdine_University

Brandeis “as a small liberal arts college, we are committed to intense intellectual engagement of faculty with students.”. https://www.brandeis.edu/registrar/bulletin/provisional/arts-sciences/index.html

William and Mary made up something called a liberal arts research university so maybe you got a point there: https://www.wm.edu/academics/departmentsandschools/

They are grouped with research universities for the rankings.

Heck, once upon a time (way back), W&M was top 25 in the US News rankings. The change in US News methodology has wrecked things for the school, from a rankings perspective.

The way Tulane has been spending money on academic initiatives, it is just a matter of time before they get back to t50 even with the idiotic new ranking methodology…

USNWR is not really about academics.

But everyone pays attention to its rankings anyways. 🙂
