Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
We moved there for the test scores and path to Carson and tj |
| I will say that we are a Crossfield family whose child is not in AAP and are very, very jealous of all of the PTA activities and after school clubs that Navy kids get. Your parent community is clearly much more involved than ours (sometimes negatively as we see here). Is the PTO inclusive? Is it more representative of the population? Just wondering how we can turn Crossfield into this - the PTO is very insular, not welcoming to new people, and does not welcome recommendations for change. They refuse to do any of the cool activities that Navy has. |
| Well someone at navy is reading this thread since today at the top of the hill were a number of safety patrol kids with a sign that says if you're stopped, unload. |
That’s great! I did notice it went faster this am! |
Not at all surprising given who’s in charge. IYKYK. |
PP here, but I don't know. Care to elaborate? |

Yes, they do. On the days that I’ve worked kiss and ride, I am doing something else right up until the minute that I go outside. |
That really applies for all jobs within the school. You just have to stop what you are doing and get out there. Traditionally, kiss n ride has opened doors at 10:20 on 2 hr delay days and as early as 8:15 am on regular days. Kids go to the cafeteria. With our school being so large and the kiss n ride line moving so slowly (because no staff member makes the kids get out at the top of the hill - they just blindly wave everyone along), it’s unreasonable to expect all students to be in the building by 8:50 am when they won’t open the doors until 25 minutes exactly before that time. Do better, Navy. |
LOL! |
NP. +1 People who think buying a house entitles them to a specific school really don’t understand how things work. |
Path !== admissions It is a way to access it, Carson historically has had some of the highest admissions to TJ. |

Yeah but now the process is different. They only take a set number from each school. |

A few suggestions from a veteran kiss and rider:
1) if you don’t want to open the doors at 8:20, why not have the interim principal (or another admin) stand outside with the kids, starting at 8:20, and just let the kids wait outside the door. Keep the line moving. The problem is now that people are getting into line super early and just waiting in their cars, and is having a massive knock on effect. By 8:20, the line is already backed up onto Thompson. By 8:25, the line is backed up down halfway down Thompson and Lamplight. Keep. The Line. Moving. If you’re a kinder parent and your child needs help getting out of the car, why not continue to the parking lot to unload your cargo? OR what if kinder parents got a special piece of paper that they could put in their dashboard alerting the kids and ride staff that “hey, this kid might need help getting out of the car. Can you help them get out please?” A 5 year old in a car seat can’t tuck and roll as efficiently as a 6th grader. 2) Right turns only upon exit OR, as previously suggested, have someone directing traffic at these key points. It’s not really a big deal to make a left of Thompson, but West Ox. This is actually a really dangerous spot. You have people making U-turns, people making right turns, and people making left turns across 4 lanes of traffic. All in the same spot. It’s just an accident waiting to happen. 3) crack down on the people cutting the line and making illegal left turns into kiss and ride. We all have things to do. We’ve all been waiting 15+ minutes. You are not special. I am making a mental note of who your child is so when my kid asks if they can have a playdate, I can say “no Larlo. Their parents are inconsiderate, entitled a-holes”. |
