He doesn't. However, he brought her up continuously in interviews/podcasts over the 10 years leading up to TTPD. He definitely has an obsession with her too.

Agreed it's not one-sided but it's like they both don't actually want each other, they want a version of each other that doesn't exist. She wants a version of him that is 100% politically correct and at all times behaves in alignment with her billion-dollar brand (while simultaneously being wild and exciting?) and he wants a version of her that would prioritize her connection with the real him over her billion-dollar brand.

Multiple songs on TTPD addressed she didn’t care if he was politically correct. The “elders down at the city hall” and the “Sarahs and Hannahs” did, however.

She doesn't have to care what they think, though. She has plenty of money. She is the one choosing to put her brand first.

Did you miss the part where he is the Smallest Man Who Ever Lived because he ghosted her?

I like the song, but I have to say I don't really buy it. It feels kind of "I don't care you I wasn't invited to the party because I didn't want to go anyway."

Also he ghosted her after she tried to finesse his public image.

This exactly. I don’t get why people want them to be together in the end. She is very clear in TTPD that this was a manic phase, he was the miracle move on drug, she writes the worst men the best and she has moved on. It was counterfeit, it died. She was wrecked, likely mourning both relationships simultaneously.
And none of it really matters as much as the way the act of creating helped heal her and the impact it has on others.
I hope she is happy with Travis and feels fulfilled. If not, I hope she is able to find the love she is looking for. And even though it’s none of my business, I’d love if she found it with Harry Styles.

Ok cool but most of us are glad he left. She needed to learn was real love is.

Well glad you like it. There are multiple songs on TTPD that are about him leaving because he couldn't deal.

You don’t pay attention to lyrics, do you? The miracle move-on drug in Fortnight is Joe Alwyn, and yes, even Travis now. The one she sings “I love you, it’s ruining my life” to and has tried to get over all those years is Matty Healy. If the song didn’t make that clear to you, try watching the Fortnight video, which is a copy of Part Of The Band video and has a million Matty references. The other men - HS, JS, TK - were/are rebounds/I-am-trying-to-move-on-from-you. Probably even coverups for what was actually going on with MH behind the scenes all those years. Illicit Affairs explains it pretty well. Joe was either willfully ignorant, contractually bound to keep mum, or a total idiot, but regardless, she was hooking up with, chasing and writing about Matty all along. And I think HS was a coverup for her and she a beard for him.

The manic phase prologue is her trying to mitigate her crash out and save face in front of her fans and Travis as she released unhinged songs like Down Bad, Guilty As Sin, Fresh Out The Slammer, But Daddy I Love Him, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, iamgonnagetyouback etc. about MH on the album. But her lyrics are all I need to hear to know who her heart really wants.

“Just say when, I'd play again
He was my best friend…
I felt more when we played pretend
than with all the Kens.”

Actually, I do listen to lyrics, all of them. And watch videos. I also think there are different ways to interpret them and that the order in which they are written and appear on the album make a difference. She didn’t edit this album much so we are able to see the full range of emotions.

Yes, in that song she says she felt more with him than anyone else. But later in the album she also says that she doesn’t miss what they had and that he didn’t measure up. She also says she’s done waiting. It’s pretty clear that she had a manic rebound with a messy man from her past but it’s also pretty clear that she’s moved on and I think it’s time the Matty stans do the same.

Is Lover about Matty Healy too?
“And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you” is the same as in Slut! “Everyone wants him, that was my crime.”
In Gold Rush too, “Eyes like sinking ships…Everybody wants you, everybody wonders what it would be like to love you.”

So much lore.

I truly like Taylor and Matty individually as artists. The talent and charisma they each possess is unreal. I think the star crossed lovers aspect of their relationship communicating secretly through music and art while pining for each other for 12 or more years from afar is pretty epically romantic and will one day be a movie with a sad ending.

I’m sad for the music we’ll never get now because their best work was about each other and there will never be a collaboration. Though if wishes came true I still don’t think these two belong together in the end. But I also don’t believe she belongs with meathead fame/clout chasing dumb but yet nice guy Travis who prior to her had a specific type that is the polar opposite of her (gorgeous voluptuous smart black women). Before he tried publicly hooking up with Taylor he was openly hitting up Cardi B and other uber famous black women for dates.

I don’t think Travis is sincere and is using her for fame. I think he also leaves her uninspired “So high school” was his one track of 30 or so songs and hands down the worst on the entire double album. I truly hope she doesn’t marry him but I think she will. The love of her life is still out there, she just hasn’t met him yet.

Still Matty /Taylor rabbit hole is fascinating now the world is in on the secret. The whole story is all there in their art, discography and interviews. Its been there the whole time right in front of our noses.

epically romantic. And sometimes I get a little mad how she used ttpd to make me wish it would come true. It's my wish now. She could have written nothing, maybe one obviously matty song, and we never would have known.

Taylor seems like a pretty complicated/multidimensional person. A part of her probably honestly does want the traditional American marriage/family and she can have that with Travis. I think Travis is astounded that he pulled Taylor and I think he truly is in awe of her. Not sure he is 'using' her but she certainly has been good for him professionally. I don't see her writing super deep lyrics about him though, I agree. It will be interesting because people will be scouring her songs for any hint of lingering Matty obsession.

Also some of her love songs refer to being kids. I wouldn't be surprised if they first connected on Myspace like 20 years ago. They were both super active on it.

yep that is why it is the 1 and not one. And maroon and cardigan (there is an interview with Matty talking about how when you are young you know nothing and everything, plus she said it was about him). Those three I am fairly sure about. Others I suspect: question, snow on the beach, you're on your own kid. The band mention in bejeweled is 1975 though that isn't a Matty song. I don't really listen to her older music but people point to songs on rep and claim that is why she was hesitant to do a TV and hasn't released the vault tracks

TTPD was ostensibly her closing the door on her whatever-it-was with MH so if she keeps writing songs mooning over him she’s going to look completely unhinged. At her age it just isn’t cute anymore.
