She basically dumped Matty by doing all the PR BS rather than backing him.

Taylor's brand will always come first. Whoever she's with will have to accept that. Travis accepts it (embraces it, even). Matty didn't or couldn't (and to be clear, I'm not saying he should).

THIS is what I can not imagine. How she goes from deep conversations with another artist over writing lyrics, favorite musicians, music theory, guitar riffs and piano chords to….football? See the lyrics to Maroon and The Tortured Poets Department both widely accepted to be about Matty. Long nights, deep conversations, lots of red wine and chocolate. Travis has a lot of charisma but let’s face it, he is skin deep, a total dork and not very bright. They have zero in common. Not her intellectual equal. She’s going to lose her mind in boredom if she marries him.

She seems to crave the fire and the passion and the drama of sneaking around with the “forbidden fruit” which makes for great music but not so much for a healthy LTR.

+1. She definitely craves passionate love and butterflies and drinking wine all night while pontificating and writing. Half her songs are about that.
I don’t think she wrote this for Matty, but it’s pretty telling about how she views love:

She doesn't need to grow up. She doesn't need the same things in a partner that us normies need. She is an billionaire ARTIST and so lives on a heightened emotional plane (artist) without suffering the practical consequences of such a life (billionaire).

I am not sure that matty is her future (though I expect he'll continue to be her muse for an album or two), but I definitely don't think Travis is her future.

Still holding out hope though because TTPD moved me life no pop album ever.

They can’t be this famous and in their 30s forever. Maybe with maturity and time things will settle and they will reconnect. Maybe they won’t. Although I don’t believe we have heard the last of them.

It will be interesting to see what direction her next album takes. Didn't she say TTPD was closing the book on the Matty thing? Because those songs were great while the Travis song(s) were kind of bland and forgettable.

Now I love the 1975. The fact that they were each others muse for decades makes me wonder if they’ll be able to replicate that passion in future music. Every album since then is all Matty coded.

Same. I run marathons and am always looking for new music to listen to while I train. I discovered The 1975 after TTPD too. They are cool and have many catchy songs. Matty writes hilarious yet very interesting and meaningful lyrics. Occasionally he sounds pretentious, but he is a brilliant lyricist and probably knows it too.

I went back and re-listened to all of Taylor’s discography and looked for the clues. I now understand and appreciate her ability to write haunting lyrics with double meanings and swirl a secret love into her poems. I am sure it was obvious to him that her songs were written for him, while the general public remained oblivious.

I love this story she tells re her and matty so much. I'm sad the story is likely over, but still hopeful. I don't "get" matty at all, but a lot of people see the appeal, so I trust he is worthy of the story.

Yeah there are some pretty funny lines in TTPD too! She was definitely channeling him.

I like the song, but I have to say I don't really buy it. It feels kind of "I don't care you I wasn't invited to the party because I didn't want to go anyway."
