It’s kind of funny/sad that TS and MH apparently had this secret 2-way communication through their respective lyrics over many years, and then TS blew the lid off with the release of TTPD and fans started connecting dots as she must have known they would. It’s brought on a level of obsession and public scrutiny that MH (understandably) wants nothing to do with.

What? They blew the lid off when they started dating publicly! People found old pics of them wearing each others shirts (1989, 1975) and then people connected dots.

Not really. The vast majority of her
fans in 2023 assumed Matty was just a rebound fling. Only a handful of fans of The 1975 and Taylor suspected the actual length and depth of their relationship. It didn’t become a big deal until she released a double album that was so obviously about him. I am still shocked Taylor actually released all those songs; it’s not typical of her to be that transparent. She could have easily edited some out and released half of the songs on a standard-length album instead, and it would have been just as successful. She chose not to, which makes me think she wasn’t over Matty by 2024.

Lyrics like swirled you into all of my poems and you are the loss of my life are what made music fans go back and analyze her and his past albums and music videos. Once you spot a few of their exchanges and references to each other, you start seeing them all over their songs and connecting dots. It’s fun for music fans, but I am sure painful for both Taylor and Matty. I can’t begin to imagine having to perform all those hope-filled songs post breakup, night after night.

As a child of the 80s, I appreciate the music of The 1975. Matty is alluring in a James Dean meets Prince sort of way.

I think he is extremely talented and I do secretly hope that he reunites with Taylor, but a James Dean he is not. That's a bit of a stretch!

James Dean was a chain-smoking, enigmatic rebel (without a cause . Dean was bi-sexual, which back in the 50s would've been scandalous, so some of his relationships were kept out of the public's eye.
In a way, Matty Healy has that same aura.

If I put the first two images side by side, I can see the resemblance. Same shaped eyes, like sinking ships. Same hairstyle here, and similar facial structure, nose & lips.

Did Taylor write Style for Matty?

I've always questioned how it made sense for Harry Styles, the giveaway title notwithstanding. There isn't a dangerous, late-night, no headlights vibe to Harry, least of all back when he looked like a young innocent school boy: Harry was 20 at the time 1989 was released, 5 years younger than Taylor and Matty. Nor can I picture Harry liking her "classic look." His style is more of an androgynous David Bowie. It's Matty and The 1975 who dress in suits and have that 50s & 60s classic aesthetic.

Also in a 2014 interview promoting 1989 and Style in particular, Taylor famously discussed how everyone has that one person who got away but you are never really over each other. How he floats in and out of your life and could interrupt your wedding one say, saying “stop, don't do it, we aren't over..” Fast forward 10 years later, TTPD was released and..."Still alive, killing time at the cemetery, never quite buried.”

Matty is trying to do the James Dean type look. They don’t actually look alike. At all.

Harry styles has that look but he wasn’t that person. He literally wrote a song about pleasuring women and had Olivia Wilde throwing her whole life and career down the toilet to follow him around on tour.

In retrospect, this was probably their own private joke, a birthday present for Matty: Taylor signaling to him that she was finally ready to turn their secret illicit affairs into a publicly known relationship. 
Poor Joe, he mattered so little to her.

This was the moment I knew they were more than just industry friends. Her Folklore hair buns (it turns out, an album for him), drinking from his glass of whiskey, singing Anti-hero live for the first time ever on *his* stage, and my personal favorite, asking his fans at the end if they are having a nice Thursday night, then looks right at Matty, smiles coyly, licks her lips and says, "Same."
