BLC tryouts are a sham. They only have 1 day compared to other clubs who have 2 days. Are BLC evaluators so exceptional that they can identify the best girls in 90 min? Or is it maybe they already know who will be on the team and just need the illusion of a tryout.
The older the girls get the more competitive it becomes. Don't be surprised to see other girls at your practice if you are at one of the elite clubs. |
This is true of BLC more than any other club, by 4th grade they know exactly who will be on their blue team before they’re walking into the tryouts. Everyone else gets orange, with far fewer resources so they subsidize the blue team. Parents are very cliquey and have a surprising amount of influence over the roster. For other clubs you see a lot of potential new girls invited to practices and clinics to see how they play over an extended period. By tryouts you are sealing the deal. |
Heros is an exception. Their A teams are so competitive that several talented players end up on their B teams. Their B teams are better than most DMV A teams. |
We could see a lot of movement this coming tryouts. Only two more years until high school. I can see families getting a step ahead to get their girls situated to the right club team. 2030 BLC will disband and the girls that don't make Capital need to find a team. 2030 Pride teams are a mess. |
Will be interesting with the new club YJMA 2030 team as one of the top in the area too, those girls could stay with that team through high school which hasn't been a factor in other years. |
YJMA 2030 DMV parent here - we love the team and are sticking with it. Highly recommend having your daughter try out if you are looking for a team with some great players and engaged parents who are welcoming. Great for DMV locals who don’t want to commute to play for Hero’s, etc. |
Where do you all practice? |
Rumor has it M&D DC coming to a field near you…. |
In Bethesda - Stone Ridge and Georgetown Prep

I am skeptical when a parent is really running the show. HUGE red flag. Agree u definitely do not need to travel out of the area for your MS athlete to prepare for HS, but this model of a parent trying to run the team under the YJ brand is not the holy grail to success. What happens when the parents cannot control the coaches? STAY AWAY. |
Another YJMA parent here and I don’t know what you mean about a parent running the show. There is a strong YJ organization in LI and growing in this area who run the club, we’ve had great coaches so far who are entirely in charge of how we play in practices and games. We also have some parents who help organize events, snack sign ups, and logistics. How is this different from other clubs or teams? It’s been working for us so far and we’ve had a fantastic experience this year. |
YJMA is a good team, we've played them a few times. They are a step above Pride for sure at 2030 age. My question is, when recruiting time rolls around, is there a dedicated coordinator for YJMA only? After all, CR isn't going to prioritize MA over the LIYJ teams (most have 4 at a grad year).
If CR isn't actively involved, then what is the benefit other than YJ orginzation getting them into some tournaments they would never get into? (lax for cure, G8) etc |
Thought this team was based in NOVA. How big is the current team? |
Why would "skeptical" "STAY AWAY" when you clearly know nothing about how YJ operates. What you describe is BLC --parents running a team under a team brand. BLC 2030 has two coaches that are both parents, and others get to chime in on who they want in and who they don't. But that is how many successful youth programs operate. Look at M&D 2030 - the #1 team in the country - parents on the coaching staff. Take a look at Next Level and Madlax, not as great. |
This is not CR's team. This is TW's team and she is totally vested in it. She has provided D1 level coaching to turn them around from their previous disaster of a team. YJ is all about development AND recruiting. It is not about club rankings and the NGLL or most of what you see discussed on this website. |
