Holy $hit. If this isn’t grossly out of touch with “normal people,” I don’t know what is. Liberals - take some ownership here instead of constantly projecting onto others.

I notice too, that our trans individual on this forum, has not done lengthy commentary on this post, as his his/her custom on other posts.

I suspect this stuff is crazy to the average trans person too. I know trans people and I can't know what is going on inside their heads, but I would be shocked if they endorsed puppy play and naked spanking in front of kids. I just plain don't believe most people, including teans people, are this fringe.

And yet there it is, on video, at a pride parade. With kids.

What does that video have to do with trans people?

You can’t cherry-pick. It’s a pride parade with inappropriate (and I’m being kind) behavior being demonstrated in front of little children. I’ve been to pride parades in P-town and the way little children are used on those floats is very offensive. I don’t care what adults do, but involving kids in these manners is wholly inappropriate.

The BTK killer is a white cishet man that was very religious and integrated into his church. They found him because the floppy was traced back to the church computer. Why are all religious people supporting serial killers? You can’t pick and choose. You go to church, you support murderers.

Again, it’s a LGBTQ pride parade. When a Catholic Church holds parades celebrating murderers, please let me know.

Christians go to church every week.

And when they have a Christian pride parade that celebrates murderers openly complete with mock murder demonstrations of kids, please let me know.

Not sure about murderers, but Christians sure do have a lot of child predators in their ranks. If we are serious about protecting children, shouldn't Congress be creating laws that ban children from being alone with priests and youth pastors? I mean from reading these, it seems that church is a wholly inappropriate place for children to be:

False equivalence. And nice try switching the subject away. There are many child predators at the border in the cartels, so by your logic, all immigration should be stopped and we should build the wall. MAGA!

Why is this a false equivalence? Because it doesn't suit your fictious narrative that trans and drag queens are the leading cause of sexual abuse for children?

There's more bad news too:

Care to respond to these? Or are you just going to deflect? Because it's never about protecting the kids.

So, being trans or drag has nothing to do with exposing children to sexual activity right? So we can keep kids away from sexual activities involving trans and drag people, and that's not bigotry, because it is normal and desirable to shelter children from sexual things like strip clubs and fetish gatherings. Can we all agree on this, without qualification?

I agree, at least in nearly all instances. There have been examples of drag queens using DQSH for inappropriate purposes, but there are also many examples of straight men using children’s activities for inappropriate purposes, so I don’t think it’s fair to tar all drag queens that way.

My issue with DQSH is that it teaches children, particularly girls, that mocking women and particularly women’s physical appearances is acceptable behavior by men. Drag degrades women. DQSH is deeply regressive sexism at heart and I do not think it’s healthy for children, especially girls. It teaches girls that mocking women for being women, particularly older women, is fine so long as men are doing it.

If it were only straight men who were doing drag then perhaps you'd have a point. But as we all know, drag queens are typically gay men who likewise traditionally constitute an oppressed group of people. And if you actually meet and talk to drag queens you'd see that they are not "mocking" women. That is a right wing talking point. It is on you if you think that a drag queen is "mocking" women.

Also I think it's telling that people like you never bring up women who dress in a stereotypical masculine way. Is that "mocking" men? And many women performers adopt a kind of "drag queen" persona. Just look at Dolly Parton.

https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/the-joy-of-drag

What a misogynist apologist you are. You get every point wrong here in your desperate attempt to justify sexism because a group you like is perpetrating it.

I don’t care what drag queens think they are doing. I care what they are doing, which is mocking an oppressed group. It’s punching down. It does not matter to me that they are gay men. They are still men and in a patriarchal, misogynist society, they still hold power over women. That is in fact why you rarely see drag kings; they are punching up, so they aren’t as popular. Or are you okay if other marginalized groups wear the logo of the Washington team, because their being marginalized excuses the racism? Does being part of one marginalized group excuse their racism against another to you? Or do you only expect women to absorb misogyny because it is perpetuated by a marginalized group?

I am a woman, I can identify mocking from men when I see it. Or are you going to gaslight me and say that actually only men get to define when sexism happens? That would be in keeping with your world view, I suppose.

As for women who rock a drag queen look, they are actually women and what is mockery and insult from men is showing power as women. Dolly Parton is being herself when she dresses the way she does.

Tell me, are you okay with a bunch of white people dressing as geisha girls for fun? Or as Native Americans? Do you celebrate the Washington team’s mascot? Because all of that’s no different than drag. The only difference is that you like the group that does drag, and want to excuse the vicious sexism and misogyny behind drag.

It's you who think what drag queens do is mocking. It's all on YOU. I'm a woman who rejects most of the stereotypical female look (done hair, nails, makeup, dresses, heels) but I have no problem with people who take it on.

I personally think RuPaul is stunning when in drag. He is just being himself and he is beautiful.

And I don't think for 2 seconds that you care about actual sexism. Let's hear some of your other political positions and which feminist thinkers most influences your beliefs about gender inequality.

You didn’t answer any of my questions, I assume because you are okay with all the scenarios I laid out. I’m not okay with any of them, but as you are okay with excusing misogyny I assume you are also okay with excusing racism.

I’ll give you my list of go-to feminist scholars after you answer my questions, not that I expect you’ve read or understood any of the scholars.

My other political positions: pro gun-control, pro legal immigration, pro public education (but not exposing elementary students to graphic sexual material), pro environment, generally pro labor but not when labor embraces sexism (e.g. not advocating on behalf of childcare workers).

You know no matter how much you debase yourself to gain favor from men, misogyny doesn’t go away? You can pretend the sexism in drag isn’t there because you want to be a pick-me, but it doesn’t erase it.

You're a conservative in drag as a liberal. Ha ha. Enjoying your persona?

No, I’m just more sophisticated and nuanced than you. I get that what I wrote is too hard for you to understand.

Your desperate need to carry water for misogynist men is sad but the world is moving on from people like you. You’re a racist anyhow. Good riddance.

Girl, bye

Such sophistication. 🙄

I think it is misogyny to essentially argue the people who largely comprise drag show events and shows, WOMEN, are too dumb to know that they are being mocked.

I think it is misogyny to argue that drag queens, who have celebrated female performers like Cher, Liza, Dolly, Bey etc are mocking the very queens they love...the queens who are actually flamboyant in the same way and also embrace the drag community. But I guess these female stars are too dumb to know they are being mocked.

I also think it is misogyny to self-servingly embrace feminism to be a bigot--to coopt the movement so you can "legitimately" hate people.

Pink washing your bigotry is an affront to all women.

100%

200%

The thread’s main argument stands. Republicans are bat snit crazy. They’re absolutely out of their GD minds, lately about drag queens (which is obviously their suppressed sexuality coming through, though not a one will admit that they find drag queens titillating). They obviously hate women - witness Idaho now restricting pregnant women from out of state travel. This is just this year’s caravans of immigrants.

I hear caravans of drag queens are at the border.

Wouldn't that be something! Imagine letting the idea of frigging drag queens take over your whole brain. These people are NUTS.

You sound unhinged.

Yeah, I'm nuts - not you, banning books and going all in on the great drag queen panic of 2023. Was the election stolen? Are there pedophiles in the basement of Comet Pizza? Was it a largely peaceful protest? Are M&M mascots lesbians now and so you're going to bring a gun to Target and show them commies?

Now, you're just lying. Have you not heard the very loud voice of trans activists shutting down anyone who disagrees with their ideology?

Shutting down how? By asking you to tolerate their existence? They are not the bigoted fascists who control state governments and ban books and ideas and any dissent.

They are the first ones to call people transphobes, bigots, fascists, and Nazis, for disagreeing with their ideology. They are the first ones to get violent and loud at events where women with contrary viewpoints speak.

Trans people existed way before the current spate of woke trans activists showed up on the scene. They were tolerated then. What's different now? Demanding that people affirm their identity and not misgender or dead name them goes way beyond tolerance. Asserting a right to access and occupy women's spaces goes way beyond tolerance.
But you already knew that but it is easier for you to cast dispersion on those who disagree with you than to argue on merits.

They aren’t shutting you or anyone else down, but just want to shut them up. They are just as entitled to freedom of speech and assembly as you are, except you support fascists who control state and local governments and want to shut them up and outlaw them.

We know they want to shut us up but that is not going to happen.
Your existential crisis of victimhoold is truly staggering.

You are a snowflake. No one is harming you. You are still free to be a bigot.

The violence against trans people in the US is dwarfed in both proportion and actual amount by violence against other marginalized groups, yet those groups don’t scream “genocide” the minute they encounter mild disagreement.

of course I know there is a lot of violence against women and children. I stand up against that, too.

Yes, suicide is self-harm - but you have to admit that some of the internal hurt comes from bullying and now just straight up laws against existing as a trans person

Less guns and way more funding for mental health would go a long way, but don't ever ask a Republican to fund any of that.

No one is harming trans people either. Get a grip!

Oh, really? You do know that there is a great deal of violence against trans people. Not to mention a very large suicide rate.

The violence against trans people in the US is dwarfed in both proportion and actual amount by violence against other marginalized groups, yet those groups don’t scream “genocide” the minute they encounter mild disagreement.

what other marginalized groups are you referring to?

Pick almost any marginalized group in the US and the statement will be true. But to give specific examples: Native Americans. Women, particularly POC women and women in poverty. Black Americans. The rates of violence against those groups far, far exceed anything experienced by the trans community.

Now, you're just lying. Have you not heard the very loud voice of trans activists shutting down anyone who disagrees with their ideology?

Not true.

why are we pitting these groups against one another? Like, shouldn't we be bothered by the violence against all of them? I know I am.

It isn't an either/or thing. This post is specifically about the trans community, but that doesn't mean most of us advocating for trans rights do it at the expense of the other groups.

There is definitely not universal agreement with the bolded statement.

It is entirely true. The only way your original statement even approaches reality is if you take the position that domestic violence doesn’t count as violence. Is that your position?

The reality is that trans Americans are a safer population than many, many other marginalized groups in the US.

Really? You think most people who don't want violence against trans people advocate or ignore other kinds of violence. Get out of here.

Suicide is self-harm.

of course I know there is a lot of violence against women and children. I stand up against that, too.

Yes, suicide is self-harm - but you have to admit that some of the internal hurt comes from bullying and now just straight up laws against existing as a trans person

Less guns and way more funding for mental health would go a long way, but don't ever ask a Republican to fund any of that.

I totally agree with your last statement.

I don’t think a lot of trans activists think at all about the safety of women or women’s rights, no. Some do but many don’t.
