The government doesn’t shut down over this. The House just can’t do any business before the Speaker is elected, which means Congress cannot pass any bills until the issue is resolved.

Let’s imagine for a minute the kinds of things that could happen, virtually instantly as far as outside observers are concerned, that would make having no Congress a problem.

This is really not a good situation.

There is no imminent danger to our republic. The nation was far more destabilized after the 2020 election.

Am I the only one of us who lived through 9/11?

Jan 6th was much more a threat vs 9/11

It’s not w competition between the two. The point is that an event like 9/11 happening now would be v. bad. If I know this, surely Putin does as well.

Putin doesn’t have the resources to pull off anything close to 9/11.

He bombed some apartment buildings, then blamed the bombings on Chechen terrorists to get elected. Reporters who inquired found themselves dead.

Matt Gaetz is always a jackass, but that is hilarious.

Seriously. I found myself absolutely loving this.

It’s strange because I really hate Gaetz.

It is hard not to love the words "rule of law" coming from a republican. If only they had applied that rule to the previous president...

I've been saying this for months now..

Trump strongly endorsed McCarthy this morning. Makes me wonder if he has the votes now. Not that he got votes because Trump endorsed him, but because he has the votes Trump then endorsed him. So he looks like he made it happen.

Yes, he did. He has been appealing to the Freedom Caucus for the past month. They don't really care about him any more though.

It's fun to see just how politically impotent Trump is now

Tepidly. Today was the strongest public endorsement.

His a$$. McCarthy clearly doesn't have the votes. He was out there this morning with a harebrained idea that 11 of the 20 would vote for him and the other 9 would abstain from voting. He has no strategy and is just grasping at straws. His only path forward is a deal with Jeffries, or to drop out.
