Matt Gaetz is always a jackass, but that is hilarious.

The government doesn’t shut down over this. The House just can’t do any business before the Speaker is elected, which means Congress cannot pass any bills until the issue is resolved.

Let’s imagine for a minute the kinds of things that could happen, virtually instantly as far as outside observers are concerned, that would make having no Congress a problem.

This is really not a good situation.

There is no imminent danger to our republic. The nation was far more destabilized after the 2020 election.

Am I the only one of us who lived through 9/11?

Jan 6th was much more a threat vs 9/11

It’s not w competition between the two. The point is that an event like 9/11 happening now would be v. bad. If I know this, surely Putin does as well.

Not fake. It's brinkmanship to extract concessions from the future Speaker. We'll end up with McCarthy moving to the right (making more concessions to the Freedom Caucus) for the privilege of becoming Speaker of the House. Not good for the country, but it's not like there's any better viable candidate.

Not clear there are meaningful concessions to give. He’s already caved to allow a single member to seek a vote on his removal.

+1 To try to invent a metaphor, once you go that low everyone knows you’re a worm.

Putin doesn’t have the resources to pull off anything close to 9/11.

You have to be present to vote but you can step into the cloakrooms for a snack or bathroom break.

One round of voting takes a long time so you can probably vote and leave... or leave and make sure you're back in time to vote.

If you miss your name called the first time, they circle back. At the end of all three rounds of voting, at the end, if there were not all votes accounted for, they went back and called the names of those people who did not respond again. So if you have stepped out of the chambers to grab a snack or go to the bathroom, then you'll get a second chance to vote.

Please stop. I’m on the verge of a nervous breakdown. If I can’t concentrate, I can’t sabotage Kevin McCarthy
