That’s interesting. The scene actual reminded me of what it felt like walking around Italy as a young female. The men come at you from everywhere, usually in pairs.

I read it as threatening too, for the same reason. The big cities were fine and going places with my boyfriend was fine, but I went out for about 15 minutes on my own in a smallish town and it was like every man in town immediately swarmed in and starting hitting on me. I spent years traveling alone in a handful of countries and fended off my share of male attention, but this was my second-worst experience in all that time. (The first was an actual sexual assault by a stranger on the street in the middle of the afternoon. Oh, the joys of traveling as a woman alone.)

Cameron is definitely involved in some Ponzi scheme and wants Ethan to invest. That's the entire point of befriending him again now that he is rich and getting him to Sicily. I also think he wanted to have Ethan cheat as leverage to use against him later on.

I actually like Audrey's character more now.

I’m confused by everyone jumping to the conclusion that Ethan is gay, when Cameron is the one who kissed Ethan’s face multiple times during this episode. He also told Ethan “you’re a handsome guy, I’d do ya” in the first episode. I mean, they both could be not entirely straight but I’m puzzled that no one has noted Cameron’s distinctly flirtatious behavior and physical overtures with Ethan, since we’re parsing sexualities here.

I suspect the latter.

Though they haven't really done anything with the character yet, so there's not much to know about him at this point. I went into this with high expectations for his role because he was *amazing* in Giri/Haji, but so far his character has just been ehhhhhhhh.

I interpreted the scene as her feeling gawked at and objectified by men. Obviously in real life it’s not the swarm that was shown but I think many of us know that feeling that there are just eyes on you kind of checking you out. It can make you feel vulnerable and self conscious. In the scene later she says she was tripping out on being a woman last time she had an edible and I think she does have some discomfort with what it is to be a woman in this world. I think this episode focused a lot on the differences between men and women, our roles and how we relate to each other. It seemed like this scene was worked in to show one of those dynamics that occur between men and women. Harper feels discomfort in a way Daphne might not because Harper lives in a world where her marriage is equitable and her husband is a true peer and equal. Daphne is very sure of the innate differences between men and women but is relieved to be a woman; she doesn’t want to be a lone bull elephant.
