Nope. It's the husband.

Her grandfather “co-ran” at hardware store worth 3.2 billion. Maybe a few million( 2-5jbut no were close to billions.

Pillars of the community who have been leaders for generations.

Same reason why you have very rich old money living in Baltimore, Philly, etc. They’ve been there forever, their social cachet and ties run deep.

Why do people keep harping about old money in this case? The family is wealthy because of a grandfather, not some ancestor who arrived on the Mayflower.

I’m waiting for the “it’s always the husband posters” to return and admit they were wrong!

Former Memphis resident here. The University of Memphis neighborhood is a nice area. It’s a very suburban like, spread out part of the city where no one walks anywhere. So I would imagine she would feel safe jogging in the early morning. Pretty much have the sidewalks and roads to herself.

I second the earlier poster who says Memphis is very similar to Baltimore. Lots of old money, beautiful neighborhoods/gardens, great restaurants/bar scene, and fun arts and music scene. But poverty and poor education system makes life there really tough for black people.

How do you know? Maybe the husband hired this guy.

Does this remind anyone else of the movie Fargo? Down to the nitwit husband being an unscrupulous salesman. If the billionaire in-laws thought he was worth a damn he wouldn’t be wasting his working prime at boat dealership. They’d groom him for corporate life, like the Woody Allen movie Match Point.

A quick Zillow search indicates that 111 homes sold in downtown Memphis for $600K or more (43 of those for $1M or more) in the last 6 months alone. Maybe it’s not as depressing a dump as you presume.

Memphis has some really nice UMC neighborhoods….and then within a mile away you can have really rough neighborhoods. Crimes bleeds over very easily.

It really is like Baltimore.

They had a beautiful wedding.

He is so clean cut and cute in these pictures - from the short statement linked above it looks like everyone in that family has lost like 20-30 lbs and all look gaunt. I'm not linking that to her disappearance, it's just really noticeable.

She was an obsessive runner and he was an obsessive long distance cyclist - which raises the question of why he wouldn't bike along side her running, presuming they had a nanny or au pair. Anyway, that's why they look skinny.

I run in part to get a much needed break from family life. Would not want my husband trailing along next to me on a bike, thank you very much. That wouldn’t really even work. Runners and cyclists go at much different speeds.

NP who is also a runner. I'm not going to speculate about what she should or should not have done, but for any other runners reading this it actually can work really well to have someone on a bike 'coasting'/barely pedalling beside you for company/safety. Agree with the PP that I don't necessarily want it to be my husband, but I have a good friend who lives nearby and will sometimes accompany me on my long runs to catch up, plus she carries my water on the bike and keeps me motivated. She doesn't break a sweat but we have fun.

I’m a marathon runner. I always had my platonic male co-worker do the early morning long training runs or any trail runs.

Running by myself, I always stick to non-secluded areas where I’m not alone and I never run in the dark.

My dad was adamant about not running at night or anywhere secluded when I was in my teens and training for soccer/track.

But, I don’t blame this poor woman in anyway. She likely was getting her run in before her job and doing the morning/evening routines with her kids—-and before the hear of the day. Maybe her running partner canceled, who knows. Terrifying.

What are you talking about? The granddaughter was not involved in the business. So why would her husband be given a job? You have to stop watching so much tv. It’s a hardware business that is family owned. The business had 3 billion in revenues. Operating margin at Home Depot are 15%. The grandfather co-ran the business with other people. This means there are other family members, the business is not liquid and the grandfather is not a billionaire. He may be worth a few million. She is not an heiress.

Pretty much every southern city is like this. And many northern ones, too.

No. There is nothing wrong with honest work and nothing wrong with working at a boat dealership.

Why would inlaws groom any son in laws for jobs? Your comments are weird.

I have many friends with wealthy parents in the area that choose to live in some fairly rough neighborhoods in DC. They are always championing diversity and make light of the crime in their hood. It’s like a badge of honor.

I saw two wealthy sorority sisters marry dumb jock layabout men. Ten years later the washed up jocks had VP executive roles at family-connected businesses. That is in fact how it works.
